Security is the key...... if you have a business, have it surveyed/analyzed by security experts and follow their recommendations. The cost is far less than the loss. Cheers, RickO

this is what I call a soft target

easy to get in and out before anyone notices

one must understand the mindset of crooks they like places that are easy to get in and out and that don't draw a lot of notice

I've been there, but it has been several years ago.
I usually go to Alamo Heights Coin Shop. They are closer to where my house.
I use to try to go by all the San Antonio coin shops about once a month.

    Sorry to hear about that.

I always hate to read about any coin shop being hit. Hopefully they'll catch the jerks who did this.

    Hate that.

Tough to track that kind of haul if the scumbags are smart. I hope they're stupid and try to take it to the coin shop down the street and get their anus' reamed by the local authorities when it (hopefully) gets reported.

This is the manager for Harry's via Russ. Thanks to all for the condolences. Some things to understand for you other guys... 1) We have several recorded cameras, motion detectors and glass breakage sensors 2) These criminals were not your average smash and grabbers, they did their homework through casing us 3) They broke into the vacant shop next to us and ripped up the sheet rock behind our shelves... They never made entry into our shop, they pulled the boxes back through the wall and went through it in the office next to ours which was not alarmed by the owner of the building. 4) They didnt break glass, no sensor activation, they didnt enter the shop, no motion activation, it was dark outside and in the store, video could not pick up anything because of the non entry. Since this event we have re vamped our security system to include 360 motion sensing and seismic detectors for the walls as well as reinforcement to the adjoining walls in our shop. Make sure all adjoining office space to your shop is alarmed by the property owner!!! Also it didnt help that the thieves set off the alarm in the dental office in our building, but since we get charged for false alarms, the contact for that business did NOT have the police respond.... Had she done so we probably just be replacing damaged walls instead of stolen coins. Please make sure any attached businesses to yours are informed of the trends in burglary and respond accordingly. I for one would gladly pay the fine for a false alarm next door to avoid this happening again.

Thanks for the update. Unreal the lengths criminals will go through to take things that are not theirs. One of the most secure inner city shops I ever saw left a German Sheppard in the shop at night to sleep and roam the shop. Was quite a deterrent.

And now for a word about Harry.

For those that live in the San Antonio area, Harry is probably the nicest, most genuine, full time coin dealer in the city. He works hard to take care of customers and has always been helpful to me and every one I've seen in his shop. He can make custom jewelry like no one else and his prices are the absolute lowest around. He works in the community taking care of abused kids when he isn't at the shop. Unfortunately, someone felt the need to take these coins from him. I know Harry has worked hard to ensure the security of his store, but as Russ said, the security of the office next door is the issue.

For those in SA, go see Harry. Help him recoup the loss as quickly as possible.

    Peace!
