Neat thread that I didn't see the first time around. BM certainly had the eye. I hope he's well and happy, wherever he is!

    Congrats on the win, MOC!!

<< <i>I have to fess up that 1962-D is now in the MOC 2 collection. By far the ptettiest 62-d I have owned. Couple minor hits on the bust of Washington will keep it
out of a 67+ holder but certainly not distracting in the least. I am VERY happy I won this coin and had my max bid well above where it finally sold. >>

    Congrats on winning MOC!

Congrats MOC! Didn't look like a solid 67 to me but the toning is the nicest I have seen for the date/mm!

You know your washies, that's for sure.

But I'll tell you what... I'm not exactly impressed with Teletrades write up! I consign a key date pop.2 coin and get zip for a description?
No, I am not happy at all about that. >>

I was under the impression that consignors write their own descriptions. Perhaps a call to Teletrade is in order. >>

Man TT images use to suck! The infamous '62-d doesn't even appeal to me all that much with this image.

Now the HA images looks like a completely different coin. I was going back through this thread and re-reading, because I remember this thread well.

    Nice $8 coin!

I was remembering this old thread and went back to look it over and the thing that was a real eye opener for me was the fact that the pop has grown one to seven.

So for the first 22 years of PCGS there was only one 1962-D MS67...

In the next five or six yrs, six more were made at PCGS!

Gradeflation? I think so. I am sure others may have other explanations; some with at least some validity.

But if you look at moderns in general, the pops have definitely climbed disproportionately in recent years.

Just my thoughts. It's an interesting thread.

I wish ole "Bushy" would come back but fully understand why he does not.

Awesome story. Wish there were more like this here.

Yeah, gradeflation is noticeable in Franklins too.

    VERY noticeable!

You remember PawPaul right? He had accumulated a ton of very eye appealing mostly MS65FBL PCGS Franklins over a span of about 20 years and then sold them off in the most recent last few years.

I can't believe how many of his coins I see now in 66, 66+, and even 67 holders.

Interesting that now that there are 7, and though the CU guide on this is $17,000, would this coin fetch anywhere near the $18,400 that it went for, and, does anyone know what the pop was when it sold for $18,400 in '12? Was it still 2, or higher??
    I'll come up with something.

I was recently offered a freshly made 62-D MS67 at around $13,000 or $14,000 as I recall. Only problem is similar later date pop 7 or 8 coins trade closer to $5,000 - $7,000 give or take. When the coin gets around or under $5,000, I will consider adding a nice quality piece to my collection.

By the way, I bought the pop 1 coin (62-D MS67) for $69 in an MS66 holder at a major auction with a pedigreed collection ($60 plus 15%). It upgraded to MS67 right away, but I let it go because it was brilliant and I was concentrating on a toned MS67 set at the time. If I recall correctly, a few years later, BM slabbed the pop 2 coin and sold it on TT. Those were the "good ole days" for silver Washington Quarters!

Edited to add: The 63-D MS67 also used to be a pop 2 or 3 coin not too long ago. Just a year ago (6/13), one sold at $9,400 in the Heritage sale. Tonight a white example just fetched less than $2,500 including buyers premium at GC. These are great times for careful buyers with cash!!
