1) why this is a such a popular variety
2) why the design team for the Buff Nickel added the animal's twig and berries
Sure is a nice example of one though, I agree with AU55+ ish
<< <i>Beautiful coin. I'll say 55, but a 58 would not surprise me. >>
Same opinion here.
<< <i>two things i have never understood

Nice coin!
I think a good part of the appeal in this variety are simply the result of it coming from such a popular series and the excitement of the treasure hunt.
As for the "twig and berries".... Hummm... I'm thinking the design team did not include them.... Or perhaps they're very diminutive.
I suspect they're hidden behind the flank...
Happy, humble, honored and proud recipient of the “You Suck” award 10/22/2014
I think these are popular because the error is easy to see with the naked eye and because it's been listed in the Red Book for decades. I wanted one when I was a kid. I think most kids want one and when they grow up and can afford one, they get one.

Yes!
The coin is legendary. It's an anomaly that makes coin collecting interesting and fun. This particular one is and always has been widely known. I got one (of low grade) just because it's cool, and I'm a coin collector.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...

<< <i>thanks guys! ANACS gave it an AU55, and it is up for sale in the BST!! >>
Thanks for the SPAM thread then.
Now, if only EVERYONE who is selling something on the BST would be kind enough to start a spam thread in the USCF, pretending to be a "guess the grade", or a "look what just came back", we would be all set.....

+1
and I vote the you suck award
I have posted a plethora of guess the grade coins that I had no intention of selling.
forget it then, I will take it off the BST.....you guys all think whatever you want...........

<< <i>and I vote the you suck award >>
So now the "you suck" award has a negative connotation? I obviously dont spend enough time on this forum to keep up with all the changing lingo and rhetoric....also proven by the fact I have no idea what magicbilly's comment was supposed to mean. I just wanted an opinion about a coin that I was getting graded. The fact that I intend to sell it now turns me into a "spammer" is beyond me.....although I'm not a huge poster, I figured most folks at least knew me better than that from my posts.
Its funny, I have had GTG posts over at CCF multiple times when at the end I mention the coin was for sale....and the members there were always happy that there was a opportunity to buy, I even sold a lincoln to one of the original grade guessers....never even the slightest suspicion of any kind of foul play. Its just a very different environment from this forum, which I keep learning. There are lots of nice folks here too, and a huge wealth of knowlege.....but I think I am better off as a lurker than a participator....I just dont fit in. Best of luck to you all, and enjoy this great hobby.
John
get back here!

Oh my,
Pay no attention to what I said of all things - I was riffing on a thread that doesn't exist anymore as of tonight and trying to be self-deprecating. Please do not go.
Best wishes,
Eric
PS - when I saw it I thought it was a really strong 55 or so.
Nice Buff btw.
There are quite a few people on this Forum who want to police it and/or act as a Posse. It makes little people feel important, ignore them.
Your coin looks nice, I am curious though, why did you send it to ANACS instead of PCGS?
Netiquette - communication rules of behavior over the internet
Netiquette reminds me of when I was a young boy and I would chew food with my mouth open or leave my elbows on the table. My dad used to smack my elbows with a fork to get his point across. Never really hurt but it got my attention. Sometimes I forgot the etiquette rules at the dining table but after enough "reminders" I figured it out.
My favorite memory was when my older sister had her senior girlfriend over when I was in 8th grade. The girl was just gorgeous and I was trying to make an impression. I left my elbows on the table while I was trying to act cool and my dad whacked the fork on my forehead and said, "elbows off the table young man". That one stung my pride more than my forehead but he got his point across.
I think what I am trying to say is that some folks just like to give gentle and sometimes not so gentle reminders of the forum netiquette. My take is that they are just trying to maintain a sense of order around here although the only real rules are posted at the top of the main page.
When someone reminds me of the netiquette rules I don't take much offense and just carry on.
And I can never guess AU/MS buff nickels, too much strike discrepancy between years/mints to be knowledgeable about. I'll just grade it "looks nice"
<< <i>You got reamed because you're not rich enough. If you were and say linked to your companies next auction no one would say a word. >>
Do you have any examples of rich people starting threads and then linking to their auctions? I'm not obviously familiar with every thread and every members connections but it seems that it is normal members that start the threads about auctions. I would agree with you in principle, but I don't recall seeing examples of that happening.

That's 100% pure BS and sounds like sour grapes.

There's one on the first page right now. From what I understand, Bruce owns a sizable portion of Legend. >>
Well, I stand corrected, thank you. I'm certainly not the forum police, but I'm not a fan of either of these actions.
NICE coin and thanks for sharing
Some here need to stop playing forum gestapo. OP was simply proud of something he owned and wanted to share it on a thread.

<< <i>nah, I'll stick around awhile. He hounded my BST listing till I deleted it, but I think enough folks know that I'm not a spammer....so I'm over it. :-) >>
Hounded? Really? Sure sounds good to play so weak and innocent.
You didn't edit, you just added post after post to it. You do know how to edit, right?
There's more to it, but I wont' get into that....
There's a reason I called it out....a lot of others have done it in the past, and been called out on it....when not called, more and more do it. It's a way to keep the USCF "salesfree"; which is what the BST is for.
Btw....no one will "delete" a BST thread...unless something really goes wonkers with it....so just saying "delete this thread" does nothing. Same goes for USCF.
Not all forums are the same on the internet.....kind of thoughts to live by

You've been around long enough to know as well. Convenient to toss out the things one doesn't want to hear, right?
I am NOT affiliated with PCGS or CU in any form, so I have ZERO power on the boards....so, go ahead. Use the USCF to post coins for sale. Or, start a thread for a "look at my new coin" or "guess the grade" to thinly veil a later "FOR SALE...BUY ME!" post.
Get enough of them, and we will all enjoy having 2 BSTs instead. I am sure that's what the majority wants, right?
So, call me gestapo all you want....do whatever you want.....not like you really care about the forum, right?

The way I read the thread was I bought a nice coin and put it in a cheap holder.
I will do a GTG and if the crowd likes it I can use this thread to justify my top tier TPG price. Sort of a bargaining tool.
I did not feel it had anything to do with showing off a nice coin.

Sigh. Whatever. You done yet? I was speaking generally and not to you in particular so you can go ahead and untwist your panties. If I'm speaking to someone particular I quote them. Like now.
Laying that aside-I know if my goal was to spam my BST listing I wouldn't have let a couple random internet comments deter me from a 4-digit sale... So if OP's only goal was to spam his listing then why'd he pull it?
Couldn't be because he actually has respect for the forum and didn't realize it would be interpreted as spam...had to be something else...
