Final Round! - Choose Winner - Survivor Round #9 ends Sunday June 8 - Choose 1 of 2016 Native Ameri

MsMorrisineMsMorrisine Posts: 39,667 ✭✭✭✭✭

Task - post your LEAST HATED To Win.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The idea is simple,

on one hand there is the Poll which voters select their favorite design.

Then there is the process of elimination to eliminate the least favorite designs over a period of time.
At first, 2 at a time will be eliminated. When there are 4 left, only 1 will be eliminated, when there are 3 left the favorite will be chosen by poll.

Final Round #9 - - - Ends Sunday June 8th

Task - post your least hated design to win.

The 1 Design with Most Votes will Win.

13 is my least hated. I like that he is writing, the gun points down and the bit of rubble. And of course, that the composition is not balanced by the denomination as in #10.

You mean the people's faces? What about the design(s)? I did not give much weight to such "small" details as facial expression because the coins usually look nothing like these little sketches.

I tried to find the one I wrote about before, but there are 9 of these threads. I do not understand why some folks are voting on what seems to be the origin of the man shown? He looks this or that? I'm happy they have 2 arms and 2 legs considering recent designs...some here even hinted at symbolism in their work. I also do not expect perfect, "loss-less" translation from drawing to coin.

    Eric

Edit for clarity - I don't really care about personal interpretations of a mere representation of anothers ideals or imagery which is still an imperfect/incomplete concept, removed from "the fact" whatever that might be. What does anybody look like? At least in this context. All I am saying is what about the rest of the design?

AHA! "Least hated, favorite..." - has been driving me crazy! Was it in a movie, was it in a film...it was in R.A.D.I.O. K.A.O.S. by Roger Waters, where...Magikbilly comes from, with his brother Benny, who lifted that darn concrete block on that footbridge and dropped it on a VW, and his wife Molly...and the Wales Male Voice Choir...and Uncle Dave...I bet I have lost all but perhaps 2-3 of you? image

Survivor gets out the least liked first.

I don't like any of the remaing, really.

If #2 didn't have a nazi-esque eagle I'd be all over that one.

Both wars are depicted and it is theater neutral

As for the apparent origins, even if it won't come through on the coin, I couldn't choose an artwork honoring native Americans knowing that art originally looks like a person of non-Native American heritage. Even #11 looks like a Caucasian. Had 18 not been eliminated that would have been the choice. I think it is a choice involving the design: the original design does not depict a Native American. All 3 of the remaining are at least WWII specific -- I see little to like in them.

at least #11 is close -- and it mentions "code talkers" for those that "don't get it."

    Hello,

that eagle may well have some of its roots in the work of Robert Foster. The image linked here shows his beautiful flagpole finial design for the 1939 NYWF (where we DID want Germany and sent Grover Whalen to Germany to try and secure Nazi involvement). These flagpoles are still there. I don't give private lecture tours of those fair grounds anymore, but when you take the "official" tour from the Queens Museum (who can not find itself on a map) they still say they are left from "the Nazi Pavilion" (there wasn't one, and they are so very far apart the pavilion would have been HUGE). Fosters works adorned much of the Fair, including the well regarded Mercury of the Ford building and Textiles in the Community Interests Zone. He worked in what he called "stainless steel ribbons".

    Best wishes,
    Eric

11 could potentially get confusing with those trees and whatever surfaces they select. 13 has a chance for a very strong look as a cameo or regular strike. My .02.

11 is the only design left that has him talking into a radio AND says "CODE TALKERS"

Can't imagine a code talkers design making it without either of those...

#11 as the winner. When I was a wee lad, I had a set of plastic army men, and had a few that looked like #11. Had the telephone headset connected to some power pack on their back. It was an interesting level of detail, especially impressionable on a young boy.

I'm still thinking 11 can get choppy with Pr/Cam surfaces. 13 is stronger and cleaner.
