Who owns the Saddle Ridge Gold coins?

The Saddle Ridge gold coins are to go on sale today. Who actually owns the coins at this point? Is it the finder of the hoard or the dealer who is handling the sale?

I believe that they are consigned, so I would assume that they are still owned by the finder. I do not know this for a fact.

This is an intriguing question. Suppose that the coins are found to be part of a collection, or worse yet stollen from the Smithsonian. If you are a purchaser of one of them, are you liable for purchasing stollen property and would you have to return it (them)?

The risk of bad title is inherent in *anything* you buy. I don't see why the identity of the current owner has anything to do with this.

If you really want to know, you should probably ask Kagin's.

Not sure who technically owns them, but PCGS has certainly exploited them.

The coins and the legend of Saddle Ridge.......now belong to the ages.......and people with $4000 to $12000 so far as I can see.

The folks who found them were quite lucky, quite smart in how they handled the find, quite lucky there are TPGs and they were found in this era and extremely lucky there are Professional Conservation services. Not to mention the Internet and the fine people handling the sale. I mean talk about a great find and great timing. Whoohoo! Score!

Most coins will be worth less and less for the next five years in a gradual decline.........people don't have the money to support the "hobby" at this level. It has corrected before and it will correct again. Gradually.

I am just plain addicted to collecting so things I wouldn't have given a second thought are on my type collecting list EF 45 to AU 55....Seated and bust and SLQs and whatever falls out of favor.

    i don't own any Saddle River Coins......but i would if i could.

I really like gold coins, but hype turns me off..... I consider 'provenance' to be a form of hype and discount it as well. Cheers, RickO
