Be ULTRA aware spoof emails from PayPal and ebay

Lots is fairly convincing spoof emails right now /---/. Click on no links and verify sender!!!

    You won't see anything from ebay or paypal in your email, that isn't also in your inbox on the site. Just filter all ebay and paypal emails right to the trash can and check on their respective websites.

    If it doesn't have your real name it's fake. Pretty simple, really.

    Besides that, who is dumb enough to clink on an email link, especially a zip or exe?

    +1. i have been forwarding 99.9% of the ones i get to ebay and paypal for years for whatever good it does. i do know one thing, i can't expect improvement if i don't act/help. right?

    I was surprised to find one with my name in it. This used to be true: If it doesn't have your real name it's fake. Pretty simple, really. but it isn't any longer. Be aware of any emails from Paypal or Ebay now, especially after Ebay was hacked.

    Could it be that your email address makes your real name obvious?

    Besides, the rule "if it doesn't have your real name it's fake" doesn't mean "if it has your real name it's genuine".

    Isn't it always easiest to delete the email and go to the actual website??

    I just got one from the National Security Agency about my "Pending Transfer". I didn't even open it.

    It used to be that the presence of non-public data such as your actual name was a reliable indicator of authenticity.

    No longer.

    The eBay database slurp contained: Name, Userid, address, phone# and encrypted password. That last bit is the LEAST useful of what they got.

    Trust NO email from eBay or ANYWHERE else you use the same account name. ALWAYS go to a clean browser session and enter the url by hand to respond.
