What plastic the coin was in before be it years, months or weeks (even days) earlier. It speaks to the portion of the market that is counterproductive to profits as it adds too much visibility to the fluidity of grading and the market's perception of freshness. Too may fresh holdered coins with fresh prices with a broken trail to their last auction sale not to mention previous look.

I would think they are very similar to the things a collector doesn't want a dealer to know.

That would be the same as expecting to know what a dealer has as a cost basis. Good luck with that if it really matters.

To insure the lowest possible purchase price (for later or immediate resale) and lowest possible profit margin for the dealer since they really should only make a dollar or possibly two on each coin sold.

I agree with you, it should not really matter.

I don't want them to know:

Where I live, the bottom line on my inventory, my travel itinerary, be able to trace where I purchased a coin or how much I have in it.

I don't want other dealers to know in addition to the above:

What my price on the coin is (if it has price sticker its on the back, otherwise I have a printed inventory list or its on my laptop). Of course online this is unavoidable.

I don't want anyone to know how much I lost on my last deal with another dealer. image Sometimes it doesn't go as well as one may have planned. And if this dealer started ranting about grades he should have gotten when he submitted, then it would be a whine fest … and who really needs that ? A lot of the inner workings behind the counter go unreported. It's business, as usually. image

Did a numismatist learn anything new today ? That's what I want to know.

It is posts like this that validate the point that if you had your name tied to your posting you probably would refrain from posting it in the first place.

Don't begrudge her for being successful, and don't forget that she has done more for the hobby than all but a few.

Why would this matter? If Legend, or any other coin dealer, was that successful, why is it relevant how much money they make (assuming they operate honestly)? They sell collectibles, not necessities and business with them is optional, not mandatory. If Legend or another dealer is wildly successful ... good for them.

Perhaps you should let him speak for himself. Unless you're just here to be partisan and stir the pot too.

And, BTW, we all know that you are also a Legend/Laura-basher. I take it that you just can't resist yourself to make for hate.
