Mint Error - Merc Dime Indented by Object! Enjoy

This came from the central states show - I think I overpaid a little for it but when I saw it I had to have it.

IMO, I would call the error a struck thru.
how deep does it look as a percentage of the thickness of the coin
I opined that perhaps a cresent shaped scrap of planchet got inbetween the die and the planchet and left the indent. I have a similar scrap piece in the SDB (unstruck) that looks similar in shape.

<< <i>Pretty impressive... although I do not care for the tarnish... surprised there seems to be no indication of the indent on the reverse.....Cheers, RickO >>
The fact that the reverse is perfectly normal is the best indicator that the obverse indent happened during the strike as opposed to post mint.
