Sitting here with my HOF gold…decisions decisions..

Like many here, I bought these to enjoy as well as to make a few buck$ on….and have only
recently learned of the value of an unopened box if i decide to have them graded…

So here I sit with 2 UNCs and 2 proofs and until I decide what I'm gonna do, I can't even open
the box to ENJOY MY NEW purchase…so I'm looking for your insight/advice...

I DID open the silver yesterday and the proof coins are absolutely gorgeous!! …UNC…nice, but
not as striking (pun intended) as the proof…

I'd really like to hold a gold proof…what to do…what to do…

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

I once opened a platinum proof eagle. I felt the heft ( 1 oz ). Flipped it a few times. Enjoyed the heck out of the experience.

Packed it up, shipped it back to the Mint. Plat was up around $2000 / oz at the time, I'm glad I did it.

For "Label Grading", you have until April 26th to submit your coins and the submission can be either in a sealed box (really dumb) or raw in the original packaging, or raw in flips.

IIRC, only PR/MS70 First Strike™ coins attain any appreciable premiums and the "window" for those premiums is typically within 60 to 90 days of release. This only means that folks who want the label at the highest grade, cannot submit for themselves so they turn to those that can submit them.

IF, I ever considered submitting these HOF coins for First Strike™ slab labels AND I possessed the coins within the 30 day cutoff window, I would most certainly open the box=, review the coins and make my submission as a "sealed box" is NOT a requirement within that 30 day window.

IF I wanted to perhaps "sell" the sealed box at a later date, then and only then would I NOT open the box and look at the coins which MAY or MAYNOT have some type of grade limiting damage such as spotting or inadvertent hits or perhaps some "haze". I'd leave that up to my sucke....I mean, buyer to find out after s/he submitted the sealed box to PCGS or NGC for that coveted First Strike™ label.

So............to me, your only decision is whether you are going to keep or sell.

This is what I would do. You have two of each cost approx $1600. Everyone always tries to squeeze out every penny. God forbid someone else make a little more than them. Everyone wants $700 and are not selling. Offer one each of yours at $650. That should move them if not $600 I would sell for $600 if I had to that will take care of it. You could get that on the BST I bet and be into your 2 for a few bucks over $200 each. DON'T BE GREEDY.
Edit: cost closer to $1700. DON'T BE GREEDY. you have an edge for a very short window. These will hit the streets in droves very soon. Or hold for a long time.
One more thing, i am not suggesting so I can buy them, I don't want them.
I just checked eBay and they're going more than I thought but eBay takes 10%. Do your homework my point is still valid. Make yours the best deal if you really want to sell.

FYI- NGC doesnt accept sealed boxes for Early Release designation. The coins have to be in their hands or depository within the 30 day window.

I agree - sell two pronto as a fixed price offer for the pair on eBay and keep the nicest pair for yourself.

I only bought a personal set and am thinking about sending them to PCGS under the quarterly grading special. If I open the boxes, as I understand it, the coins just have to be RECEIVED by PCGS by a certain date for First Strike.

Is this correct? What's the cutoff date?

Take your profit now. Sell the boxes unopened.

If you slab them and they come back less than 70 you may have trouble selling them.

Only one thing to do when in hand. Enjoy. Then flip . Once they're out of hand, you can brag. And they sure are getting out of hand image

I just checked the First Strike page again. Still no listing for the HOF coins. No dates for FS set yet...which is a different matter from the quarterly special.

It is usually 30 days from first delivery. IIRC they were released 03/26 so the last 4 days of March plus 26 days into April.

Not necessarily, if PCGS does what NGC did by ignoring the Baltimore date and using April 6th as the beginning date. PCGS did the same last year with the reverse Buffalo's first issued at the ANA a week before anyone else received their order.

Exactly OPA. Till they say there is a cut off date there is no official cut off date no matter what they did before or what NGC does or what any of us think or wish. Check your self First Strike Page. Be sure to click on "more" at the bottom of the list to see the full list.

I receive 15 HOF Unc. Gold on 4/8, I just Had to open and look at them. After viewing them though my 10x scope
all 15 looked to have 70 possibilities, so I expressed them to PCGS the same day. Tracking says Delivered
1PM 4/9 but PCGS has not notified me that they received them yet. I check and paid for First Strike, But
wrote a note to please inform me about any special labels available. anyone hear yet about special labels?

Yeah, the above posts are about the quarterly special which is a special label ( "Make sure to request label #107 on the submission form" ) and discount on grading/first strike fees.

NGC just posted Early Release cutoff of May 8.

They are offering the official HOF logo on Early Bird submissions. With each coin you'll get a HOF baseball card with the HOF hologram and serial number.

I wonder if PSA will grade the cards... image

There might not be an entry on the FS page yet, but according to the pops, PCGS has graded 5 HOF uncirc MS-70 First Strike (not Baltimore.)
