    Bummer about the rim damage.

Obverse upper left rim looks like it may be struck partially out of collar? Or is it just showing that way due to the very large (excellent) image?

    Tim:

    Way to go!!
I's only the second circulated example I have ever seen. Despite the obverse wipe/cleaning it's still a great find!
    When in doubt, don't.

Wow, great score! The rim issue is easy to look past on a coin like this, IMO, and if you get it graded, the holder should hide the issue image

Is this the latest die-state? I've never seen an example with die breaks within the "scar".

    You look to be correct.

I do believe it is the latest die state variety. I looked at a bunch of images, and I couldn't find any more dramatic.

It obviously would end up in a Details holder, but for someone who needs an example to fill the slot in a TOP 100 set of VAMs, it is a windfall for you. It should realize every bit of what I shared with you by PM. image

This reminds me of my time with "you know who" when I found the 1878 VAM 44 in AU (ask DennisH) among others, including several 1887 VAM 1B Clashed E reverses. It was fun while it lasted. image

Whoa! Not only a full scarface, but that looks like die stage H-10, which is the latest known with that large die chip on the bridge of the nose directly in front of the eye. There's probably a fine, vertical die crack upward from that chip as well.

Unbelievable!! After all these years of searching bag after bag after bag of silver dollars, never a Scarface and never a Donkey Tail. And there it is: you pluck a LDS Scarface out of thin air. Literally thousands upon thousands of searching raw, virgin bags of silver dollars. Geesh.

YOU SUCK! Just kidding. That is a GREAT find. Congratulations. PS-the coin looks pretty nice to me. The huge images make the rim tick look worse than it is. Nice looking coin.

    I know what you mean.

I have sorted 100,000+ Mercury Dimes, and I have found one 1942/1, one 1941/2-D and one mishandled proof. If you compute the hours it took to find those coins, it was probably best to not even search the coins!

The coin does not look quite as wiped in hand. The rim bumps do concern me.
