Question about the Buy, Sell and Trade forum??

Do most members pay the asking price or is it OK to make an offer even if it does not say OBO? Also, what is the steps for a transaction?? I assume you just E-mail the member that you want to purchase the coin (if available) and he gives you his mailing address, you send the funds and he sends the coins, is that the way it goes? I have not made a BST transaction yet and not knowing has kept me from taking the leap because I don't want to screw up my first transaction. Thanks for any info you can give me.

  • yes, use your gut instincts but you got the hang of it. If you were more established it wouldn't be unheard of to have the coin mailed at the same time with your payment.

It's fine to make an offer on anything. The worse they can say is "No thanks". Don't get your feelings hurt. Sometimes if you dicker around too long in negotiations someone will come along and pay the full asking price, so think about that also. While most sellers will give you first refusal, some (probably less than 1%) will sell it out from under you.

Being it will be your first transaction, most sellers will require you to pay and allow for funds to clear before they ship an item to you. If you pay by Paypal or other electronic payment, most will ship asap. Check/M.O./Cashier's check will probably delay shipment a week or so.

If you see something you like on the BST, use the PM (Private Message) function in the members icon tab (the little "Lock" symbol) and shoot them a message saying you're interested in the item and you would like to purchase it. The you and them can provide the various shipping/mailing addresses, email addresses, Paypal addresses, phone numbers, etc. to complete the transaction.

It's good to build up references so both the buyer and seller can feel warm and fuzzy about a transaction. Personal ebay feedback helps.

Be careful in dealing with something that seems to good to be true. There have been a couple of occaisional fly-by scammers drop in and catch some folks. Most, not all, folks with higher post counts that have been here a couple years are trustworthy.

Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.

I see things on the BST that are priced at full retail or higher so caveat emptor.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

Just like anywhere else, look for really good pics and/or a return privilege. Expect to pay return shipping (with insurance) if you do send an item back.

Or sometimes underpriced, and then the poster is deluged with PM's and kicks himself for not doing his due diligence image

  • Thanks all for your great information, I think I have my training wheels on for my first transaction. I don't have a problem with seller holding coin until payment clears at all, in fact I would want to do the same.
