I've been searching almost daily for that one and I'm not sure how I missed it. D@mn! You DO SUCK!!!
BTW - Congrats! >>
I am actually surprised more collectors did not see this one. Pretty obvious if you opened up the auction and looked at the pics. I thought it may have been cleaned but clearly it is not. Had one other serious bidder that pushed me from under $300 to the final $860 price. I wonder who that was.
Thanks for the YOU SUCK, it's my third. And, thanks for all the comments!

And therein lies the key...
Searching daily through all of the repetitive dross can be very monotonous and tiring. That one must have listed on one of those days for me, where I may not have taken the time to open up the listing. It takes time and persistence to find these gems. I've found three 1901 DDRs over the past three years, but I'm "zip" on ol' scarface. One of these days I'll find one and you'll have another bidder to contend with!
$8K for an AU ? NOT. I would be happy to see this make it into an MS holder at PCGS, but I'm taking a skeptical position. The area at the cheek in particular has the grey tone often associated with high point rub on an AU. I see it in the hair over the ear also, and on several points in Liberty's cap.
"You act like all ebay sellers have a clue as to what they're talking about."
I think I know how to interpret most eBay images with a reasonable degree of accuracy. Nice of you to assume that I was drinking KoolAid though. If it grades MS, I'll take just as much away from the topic as I did from my initial interpretation of the images, and I'll be very happy for Bob. Of course we can all expect that Bob would have made just as prominent an announcement if the coin had evidenced a harsh cleaning too.

I don't grade and use PCGS for that. It is what it is and they will determine it in a couple of weeks. I do think that it is MS, not cleaned and should grade just fine. But, I've been wrong so many times I can't count them all.

Way to go! That's a really cool variety to say you cherrypicked, in Mint State nonetheless!
Honestly, I think it's a shot 64. A good shot, too. Those obverse fields are very clean, and the poor strike shouldn't hold it back since the die crack was most likely a factor - none of them were struck well.
EDIT: After seeing your new pics, I think 63 sounds about right. I can see more hits in these new photos...

Good for you and I like 63. You have it in hand also, but of course, Dunce knows better. >>
Nice ad hominem attack there Bugs. You're good for at least one a week. You're free to go back under your rock now. Unless of course you want to make a bigger fool of yourself and try to quantify where my "hate and foolishness" are evident. EOM.
I'll hand deliver it to the PCGS show a week from tomorrow and then the wait begins. Won't pay for one day grading as I cannot go back to pick it up.....so, have to have it go to PCGS and then grade and then back to me. Rest assured I will post when I get it back.

Your pic shows the luster much better than the sellers.
Did you think it would be MS from the sellers pics?

No, seller's pics led me to believe it was XF. I did't expect it to be this nice.

<< <i>Looks like a shot 4? That will cover a few mortgage payments, eh?
This will not be a casually graded Morgan... in which case I think a 64 may be too high. I think 62 or 63 is more likely. I lean towards 63.
