Boeing Show report - gotta beat Bochiman, SwampBoy and SeattleSlammer!

Bought a early bird badge for the show so I could watch the dealers set up and eat donuts. image

Had a chance to catch up with Bochiman and talk briefly with SwampBoy and SeattleSlammer. SS was eyeing a 1/2 dime - the rest of us were looking for AARP sized coins.

Had a good chat with Ryan from West Seattle/Bellevue Rare Coins. Very nice young man - sold him some generic gold for a friend and he was very helpful.

Not much in the way of special holders - saw 3 Morgan Doilies with strong prices on them, all common dates, 63-64.

Bought a coin certified by Independant Grading Associates, Inc, 1901-O Morgan, 65/65. Certificate dated 12-21-87.

A highlight was seeing Nicole who used to do shows with Trusted Traditions - she now lives in the area and is no longer with TT.

Overall a good time - now back at work. image

Just got back from the show...only had about 90 minutes, so had to move fast. image

Honestly, I was a little disappointed. It didn't seem quite as nice as the average Boeing Show, although attendance looked good. I overheard a few dealers complaining about lack of sales.

I did see some nice material, including a beautiful PCGS VF35 1909-O Barber quarter. Choice original coin. The dealer wanted $1950.

I walked out with a choice 1919-S SLQ in PCGS VF35. That made the drive worthwhile.

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.

I finally got home...so you beat me by HOURS! image

Traffic on 167 took me TWO FRIGGIN' HOURS due to accidents and people who don't know how to merge correctly.....idjits! Should have been 40 minutes, like it was this morning.

That said, I will do a mini-report in a bit, but wanted to say it was nice to see people (Dave....I still haven't met you but I recall buying 3 rolls of OBW silver roosevelts from you on ebay even, years ago, and I still have them). Always nice seeing and chatting with Lakes, SS, and Swampboy. They always seem to pick through the chaff to find something nice.
I did pick up a few things and found a dealer who refers to a certain holder, NOT LABEL, as "doily" and he used to work for PCGS he said, back when they were starting up and had some interesting stories....Lakes...I wish you had still been around for the stories and holder discussions. He seems to know quite a bit about them. This is the dealer at the table I showed you the OGH that were washed out to a yellowish look.

Now, get back to that 4-letter word....WORK! image

Good seeing folks! I thought that the show was a bit blah. I saw way, way too many coins that I've seen for years from the same dealers. And some dealers with better stuff that usually attend weren't there this year. Didn't seem like much fresh material. Perhaps it's all of the CAC related posts on the forum these days.....but I noticed very few CAC beans despite plenty of slabs. Not that there's anything wrong with that! Still, a fun time despite my complaints. image Bochi, I feel for you having to take 167 buddy...ouch!.....I swung 518 to 509 to 99 and it was smooth sailing headed NW.

One pickup because I didn't want to leave empty handed. This one has some especially nice frost and I've always liked these holders.

Shoot - would have loved to talk with him - might have to go back tomorrow!

    Glad I left early - I-5 was down to 1 lane so I went 405 to 90 - wasn't too bad.

Unfortunately, I made it to work on time. image

    Hey great seeing everyone.

I managed to win a 1988 Silver Eagle in OGP in the first hourly drawing of the day. Woohoo! free silver!
Spring ANA last year I won a half ounce .999 silver bar so if this trend continues I'll be in good shape in no time.
I found a few nice raw Walking Liberty Halfs; one toned AU and one a pleasant, not blast, white.

Good day; coin show, coin talk, free silver and then when I got home I found this in my mailbox.

Nice score on the free silver Swamp!
    Nice mailbox find, too.
And you didn't even mention that cool toner Canadian buck...that was a great deal for what you paid!

I've seen those one sided Canadian toners in PCGS slabs sell for strong $.
But it would be a shame to lose the box, too.

  • Lakesammman - The weather was very nice, thought you'd be golfing. Guess I missed you guys since I got there around 2pm. And by the way, the donuts were still sitting on paper plates ready to be plucked up and devowered image

    Thanks for the show report.
Would have loved to attend though my work obligations didn't allow such again.
I'm going to have to plan ahead for the next event!
It would be nice to meet some fellow PNW forumites and have faces to go with the posts.
    One of these shows........

Anybody know if it was Ace Reiswing, from Gresham Oregon, that had the heart attack at the Boeing show?

Yes, I believe it was. As I said in my long-winded show report, Jerry Bobbe said the gentleman's name was "Ace".
Jerry, from Portland, said he has known him a long time.
