don't know if this has been posted before but quite useful imo

pay especially close attention to the Weak strike or Die trial explanation about the die and press and apply it to coinage errors in general.

on the subject of errors, if someone could post the url for the site that is being built or has been built for cuds, i will appreciate it.

i have a cud book and supplement but have a very strong feeling there are a bunch out there that are unlisted and would like to see what work is being done to updates for the known listings.

The information on weak strikes is dubious with regard to ultimate causation. Rich Schemmer did quite a bit of research and dismissed the notion that shutting down (and starting up) the press causes a gradual diminution in striking pressure, resulting in a succession of weak strikes. Furthermore, amongst a long list of possible causes listed by Ken Potter and Sean Moffatt (the latter an experienced press operator), neither cites press shutdown/startup as possible causes.

While I can't entirely dismiss this source of strike weakness (after all, many different press models and brands have been used over the years), I'd need to see more than someone's say-so on this proposed causal mechanism.

If you're looking for comprehensive information on error types, this is the best place to go: www.error-ref.com.
