The First Curved Coin from the United States Mint

I'm quite looking forward to this coin becoming available.

Huge baseball fan, and the fact that this is a US Mint "first" (curved coin) have me excited to own this coin.

Gold is usually out of my price range, but that 1 oz silver will be mine!!

I will be up to bat for the low mintage gold coin which should be home run and a quick sell out. I wonder what PCGS will do about putting this one in a slab?

....and, that would be the only reason I would buy one.....a somewhat quick flip.
Coin itself does not excite me.

    Curved coins?

    Strike 3..................I'm out.
  • Fitting that the point the mint jumped that shark and went baseballcardpoloza was with a baseball coin. Non-artistic, non-creative computer rendered nickel and dime crap with a built in novelty to appeal more to non-hobbyists than serious collectors. Not for me at any price
  • Now come on crypto, tell us how you REALLY feel. image I hope they are in touch with the Perth Mint on how to pull off cupped coins like this. It's something completely new to them and, well, let's just see how it goes. image

The 2014 Mint Product Schedule lists HOF coins in proof and uncirculated. With 50,000 gold coins available, Is that a game changer? How many of each will be struck?

Also, I wonder about how these will be distributed, the RP Buffalo at the ANA show comes to mind, when the mint sold RP Buffs at the show while other customers who ordered online had to wait. Possible that the HOF gets a bunch of these to sell in Cooperstown in a slabbed, special label?

I think that there are curved Aussie Southern Sky issues as well which have been holdered. I think that MCM has had them.

This is beyond gimmicky, dopey in fact. I also find a giant baseball glove covering 90% of the coins surface just an awful image. Zero artistry, zero interest.

I'm very excited about these coins, mostly because the "gimmick" fits so well with the subject. That said, I wouldn't like to see the Mint putting out colorized coins, coins with gems in them, and other schmatta (please correct my Yiddish if I've misspelled this).

The honoree and coin shape were mandated by congress

Personally, I could care less about this new "gimmick".
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Considering this shape was specifically designated by congress and they at least tried on the pan-PAC, I get the impression congress wants to do something numismatically.

I just think they need guidance.

    I've said it before.
I like baseball. I like coins.
I also think the best design was chosen for once.
Looking forward to getting a few.

not exactly the "first" coin struck by the US mint from convex/concave dies, maybe the first one intentionally
