    You had to have it shipped to you, AND it was given to you outright for nothing? I'd love to get a chance to work with THAT dealer!!! If it, but had to be shipped, it costs SOMETHING to ship it (I'm simply assuming it was not from a B&M shop, as no dealer can give stuff away free, with free shipping included.

    also, you're getting there on the imaging, a little smaller (size you are using now is a bit too large, as you can see every little thing on that coin with that size..
    the lighting, you still need to work on your white balance a bit. Make those images smaller, and I'd bet the only thing you can see is the PVC. Nice coin, too bad for the improper storage.
    I'll come up with something.

    This is not a real 3 leg it was at an antique shop that I bought some stuff at. Got some old bottles for my oldest son he likes them a lot. I talked to the shop owner who had a couple of other coins and we discussed this one for a while. I showed him on coin facts, on my phone, what the diagnostics for this coin are and also showed him the pics of the actual coins. I was probably talking with him for over an hour and he offered me the coin for taking the time to show him everything. I did also spend a bit over 1500 with him and will be back for more stuff.

    I think this would have beel a high MS coin if some one did not remove that leg and put acid or something on the back to get it to look even. If they had done a better job with the leg it might have passed possibly. May be at a 2nd tier TPG

    It looks like it to me as it is not flat enough across the plain of the leg as compared to all the different grades on coin facts. If you look at the leg it is a bit divited and has a rise towards the other front leg. The rear leg looks right but also could have been ground down to give the appearance of the die wear/polishing. I am not totaly sure about the area under the stomach but it does not look right. The coin was treated with something on the reverse, the entire reverse was done. This i would think was done to hide the tooling.

    It's off in a number of ways. Interesting that the doctor knew, for the most part, which areas to at least focus his chicanery on.
    -- the neck abrasion was attempted, but poor effort.
    -- the bison peeing is a mess.
    -- that leg...ouch
    -- the "fang" that should hang down from buffalo's beard wasn't even attempted.
    -- finally, the rearmost leg doesn't look bony/decayed.

    Those are some other good points. Tomorrow the coin gets it's F stamped on it and goes in the fake book for my boys to have for the future and to make sure it does not go into circulation...

    I like the dealer--He most likely knew it was not a real 3-leg and let you talk him into giving it to you. It is a good coin to keep as a reminder that altered coins exist and look at once in a while for comparison. A good start to an altered messed with coin collection. Does anyone collect messed with coins? Perhaps, if they can get them for free or inexpensively. At very least it will always be worth 5 cents.
    Whenever I get coins like this I keep them as a miniature side collection.

    Upon reflection you are most likely correct about the shop owner. He is a very nice guy and very considerate towards my oldest son ( Autistic). Thanks for the comments Bob, also we do have a collection of fake coins and always add to it if it is cheap.

    Faked coins are excellent teaching tools.... always good to retain... I like your idea of identifying them to prevent future usage...Cheers, RickO
