    ms62FB...i think there are too many marks on the cheek and there looks like a dig behind the head so if it did grade that is where i would put the max, and there seems to be quite a bit of rim chatter as well

    This specific style of photo is not ideal to grade Mercs. It is a high relief coin (in relative terms) so a different style of picture is better suited.

    From this angle/view, I'd say 63FB-64FB... I don't see rub, so it looks BU (dipped at some point, of course), but 24's will be fairly struck up so I'm not surprised. What is interesting on this coin are the rims. Obverse and reverse have areas of strong strike and almost smooth at the same time, and also the STATES OF will hold back a better grade (e.g. more fully struck). Lastly, I really knock a coin down if it has carbon spots, on Mercs it's never a good thing. This coin has an area of these by the CA on the reverse, and then also by the Fasces, which says that post dipping stuff is starting to grow again.

    As a Merc collector I would pass on this coin but everyone's tastes are different image

    If it is graded above a 64FB I would be surprised.

    I came up with 64 too with those marks/spots. This is not the best photo as mentioned - the relief - with the shadow she looks like she needs a shave image

    FROM THE PHOTOS:

    The reverse looks very nice and free of major problems. It has a shot at FB as well but that could only be determined for sure with it in hand. Depending on the luster it could easily be a 66 or better reverse.

    The obverse looks to have some issues. Possibly two small hits to the right of "B" in LIBERTY. A chattery neck, a chattery cheek, a scratch near the back of the neck that goes up to the base of the hair, maybe a small scratch that runs from the motto to the temple, maybe a scratch across the jaw, maybe a small couple of hits on the back of the head? The obverse seems less than great.

    This is all based on the photos....and guessing based on them...the coin might be 62FB or 63FB?

    If venture a 65. Obverse pic is tough as mentioned. A slight change in light angle can make something out of nothing on mercs.

    Hard to tell from the pic of obv. I don't see chatter, but I am on a small screen laptop.

    Could be 63-65 FB.

    64 or + for technical but a bump to 65 or + for hammered strike. walkers seem to get bumped 1/1+ for strike so lets see if mercs do too.

    All in all you did very well in grading you guys picked up the chatter or die polish in back of the neck. But alot of them have this the light strik in STATES OF on the rev and the die polish lines. I know it had a old dip job but felt it will get in a holder as for the FB in hand it was all there. So for $20 why not i look at it this way spend $20 for lunch or buy the coin put it in a holder and save the Full Bands and have a nice coin on the chep. I see so many coins get tossed around in 2x2's that say FB then when you look at them it's not there maybe at one point it was but with all that tossing it went bye bye. But now this one is saved with a good grade as well and chep for me.. Thanks all for looking and good eye's every one keep up the good work. image

    Same as alway Jeff. I walk in to one of my good B/M's ask what new he toss 2x2's like he is pitching penney's. Then i see this one and tell him to stop ask how much he says $20 it's mine the next day it's off to PCGS with the other stuff, Bang in a MS64FB holder next stop in the hoard. image

    Yeah the bands are nice, but what about the tops of the letters on "STATES"?

    Or is that just a peculiarity of the lighting?

    its a heck of a coin and I think a great pick up be it 64 or 65 or plus or cac or whatever. Love the look and one wont find an example that nice with out a lot of searching.
    Nice solid grade on the slab to be sure.image
