True but then I wouldn't mind spending $7 just to find out!

Wow, it lasted all of a few seconds under 12 minutes!! There were Doilies, when they were white hot, that sat for longer than that after listing! If that IS the 'Cheerio's Dollar', oh boy!!!! An early Christmas gift. This seller never sold ONE coin, mostly clothes, but from baby-food to, and I quote verbatim: Delicious Black Women's High Heels Size: 5 1/2 (#320909212212)

I'd figure, unless the seller gets pelted with messages, but only lasting 12 minutes, they'd have to check completed auctions....but I figure the chances of ebayer w***n (639) is going to get a VERY early, and a potentially VERY BIG Christmas present (odds are pretty damn good, even if there ARE Cheerio's Dollars that AREN'T the 'big one'. Just unreal that a person, who never sold even ONE coin, or coin related item, could come across something like this and not do ANY research on something they plan on selling on ebay. Seller charges $2 shipping, it'll get to w***n in a regular envelope for whatever a single stamp costs. Seller probably figures he made $$7.49 profit on selling $1.01, less ebay/PP fees profit....selling $1.01 for $7, charges $2 shipping....makes $5.99 on the coins, and maybe $1.50, less the fees. IF it comes that way, with no tracking, the buyer could technically get the damn thing FREE!!! Simply infreakincredible.

disclaimer...this is all based on the ASSUMPTION it's the 'big' Cheerio's Dollar....myself, I have a feeling someone just made a 5 digit rip for $8.99. Where would that rate in the post that wanted 'your biggest rip' or 'biggest return on a rip', or something to that effect.
    I'll come up with something.

weren't the Cent and Dollar packaged separately?? these two appear to be in the same cellophane capsule.

Am I the only person who feels sorry for the seller? I swear on my kids if I won that and it turned out to be the cheerios dollar, I would at least send them a $1000 thank you.

Why would it end after a few minutes. Maybe someone made an offer and it ended, so maybe the seller gets paid better

No, they came just the way you see the pic.

I have never seen the Dollar but have seen many of the Cents packaged individually so I assumed that the Dollar came the same way.

<< <i>Why would it end after a few minutes. Maybe someone made an offer and it ended, so maybe the seller gets paid better >>

It was an auction that started at $2.99 and had a BIN of $7. The seller was HOPING to get $7 out of it!!!!!!

To keets...I'm almost 100% certain, from others that we all were directed to at one time or another they were 'sealed together', like the mint does.....come to think of it, you'd think the mint possibly packaged it in mint cello. I don't know any better than 50/50 (perhaps someone can chime in that DOES know?).

edited.....keets, now you have me trying to recall if they were sealed together, but 'seperately', much like the mint sets. This packaging has the loose so they can contact each other, so now, I'm less than 50% certain....because of the good point you brought up
    I'll come up with something.

right now if you go to the link for the OP's completed auction there is a listing for a "Cheerios Cent" packaged individually. that's the way I've always seen them. the local shop probably has 2-3 of them and they used to sell them for about $10 each when they had them.
  • Most of the boxes contained the cent packaged by itself. A smaller number of the boxes had the cent packaged with the dollar. I do not recall ever seeing the dollar packaged by itself.

Ya and some will try to get it befor he or she sends it out to the buyer. image

    Hoard the keys.
  • A forum member ATS had just posted his story the other day of how a guy was selling that very same thing along with a Hot Wheels or Matchbox car and he listed it as a Nascar collectible and some loose change out of a cereal box. He ended up taking a $3,500.00 chance on that one since a number of other collectors keyed in on it even though it was in the toys section and not coins.

He sent it in, remaining in the packaging, and it turned out to be the big score... I guess you could say that a $7.00 or so gamble was a much safer bet than the $3,500.00 the guy ATS took.

Best of luck to the buyer to actually receive it but I am sure someone (or many) have told that guy what he got rid of and what they would have gave for it. If it makes it past the wolves at the door then that will be the true HUGE score.

listed started as an auction at $2.99 and ended 12 minutes later with a $7 buy it now. Most likely buyer contacted seller and offered $7 if the seller would revise the listing to a buy it now.

<< <i>Most of the boxes contained the cent packaged by itself. A smaller number of the boxes had the cent packaged with the dollar. I do not recall ever seeing the dollar packaged by itself. >>

IIRC. 10,000,000 cents were placed in Cheerios Boxes and General Mills advertised that 1 out of every 1,000 boxes would have the Sacagawea Dollar in it.

EVERY Listing I have ever seen has always had the cent and dollar sealed together on the same card.

I almost forgot, SOME ( a scant few ) Cheerios Boxes had a certificate which could be redeemed for 500 Sacagawea Dollars. Well, I think it was 500, it could have been 250 or maybe 200 or maybe 2000 since the advertising campaign was to celebrate the year 2000.

I got the cents but not the dollar since I was not heavy into getting a SAC in a box of cereal which I could get down at WALMART for a buck! (which is where I got my 1st SAC.) Have you guys priced a box of Cheerios lately? Even in 2000 they were like $5.00 a box!

If it's not the ETF version, is it still highly sought after? I mean 700+ million 2000P SAC's were struck, am I missing something?

Even a Cheerios Dollar, slabbed as such, without the ETF, still carries a relatively hefty premium.
  • Someone will probably message the seller and offer more to cancel it.
Then more messages will make the seller realize something is up.
I hope the buyer gets his cherrypick but this has happened to me several times already.
I dont like people who do that.

Ok that explains it. Were the ETF examples only distributed in boxes of Cheerios? Or were they released into the wild? Rolls? Mint sets?

I wonder how many ETF versions were un-packaged and spent? I always examine 2000P SACS for the ETF or the wounded eagle and will buy them all if I see em in the register.

Undoubtedly many. Kids probably removed them from the package and spent them. At least one has been found in circulation in North Carolina. Also, many were probably just thrown into a sock drawer and forgotten about, where they still sit.

Very informative thread for me.....If I had seen it offered on the bourse (or a garage sale, or anywhere else) for $7, I wouldn't
have given it a second glance.
