    I was about to convince myself that this coin was not cleaned.....The coin is really bright, but doesn't have any really deep cleaning marks. Would some Taco Bell Napkin toning help?

    Cleaned, although it really doesn't look harshly cleaned. Maybe a trip to Taco Bell would help.

    I'd recommend taking this coin and putting it next to a few slabbed A50 to MS63 examples. The differences should be immediately evident.

    I did compare it to a few AU50 to AU55 slabbed examples and it didn't look all that different to me, maybe just brighter than the others. That is why I thought about the Taco Bell toning possibility.

    How could you miss all the little parallel scratches? If it were from normal circulation the scratches would
    all be random and not all going the same direction (parallel).

    cleaned…but depending on how rare the VAM is, you can always still have it attributed (TOP 100) and slabbed as AU/Details in a PCGS holder. Good luck to you either way.

    When I rotated the coin under bright light the scratches didn't seem to be all parallel like they look in my pictures.

    Here are some pictures of a 1921-s AU53 that I just took. I guess it doesn't have as many parallel lines as the other coin.

    That piece won't receive a grade. Based on those images, I think that it has been polished.

    It's hard to put into words the look that the first coin exhibits, but the surfaces look polished. ALL of the scratches on the cheek are oriented in a similar direction. Look at Liberty's cap, the hair, and the lettering around the rim. These areas all look unnaturally bright/flashy. There is no depth to the luster - more like it's painted on. The second coin shows deeper luster with a more original, granular look to the surfaces. There is evidence of a wipe with a few scratches going the same direction, but the whole coin doesn't show the same polished look the first one does.

    I will use the Taco Bell Napkin Toning technique on the coin and see if I can make it look more natural.

    Take a common date slider Morgan, and pull out the silver polish and get to work. After your done, take a look at it. It becomes very obvious after that what the proper luster on a coin should look like.
