.....drive 300 miles to a 100 table coin show? I know that dealers will make this trip but what about collectors?

The more qualities observed in a coin, the more desirable that coin becomes!

    Nope.
    I can go to Baltimore, but it would take time away from my kids. My dealer friend is setting up, and will look for me. If you have a good relationship with a dealer, you really don't have to attend many shows.
    All coins kept in bank vaults.

    Nope, not that far for only 100 tables. There are plenty of those (and much larger) close to me each year. For 100 tables it would be 50 miles or less.

    If the only reason I would go is for the bourse, then probably not, but there are more reasons to go to a show.

    If I wanted to touch base with some old friends, make connections with some dealers who might help me find a coin I really want, had the time or just wanted to blow the stink off, I'd go.

    I haven't driven to the local monthly show in years. I did go to the ANA show last summer, that was about 50 miles.

    Just a random local show maybe not.

    Both Agressive dealers and collectors will and in most cases find something making the trip worthwhile.

    I have driven 50 miles one way to a couple of different coin shows. To go
    300 miles, it would have to be tied in with some other purpose.

    You city guys make me laugh. Around here a trip for groceries can be 300 miles. I've done almost 2,000 road miles in the last two weeks for hobby-related travel (my non-coin hobbies). 2,000 more road miles planned for the week after next.

    Sure would..........A few years back I would do it 5-6 times a year sometimes it was closer to 800 miles.

    looking at the same ole same ole all the time at the local shows gets old.
    not to mention you just never know where that next keeper will be found.

    But thats just me and I dont mind the traveling.

    Are we talking round trip or one way? One-way probably not, round trip I have done that before easily for smaller shows.

    For a run of the mill, general show, no.

    The exception is the EAC convention show which is usually smaller than that. There are some items offered there that you will not offered at any other show. For that one I have flown over 1,000 miles.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
