Hoard the keys.
<< <i>In this condition is there any value in this coin? >>
There's always value to any coin no matter if it's chewed up like yours or not. Question is how much is it worth? (i.e. what someone is willing to give you for it at any point in time)
Being that this is a more common date and it's mighty damaged in many different ways, I'd say it's worth ~$10.....maybe.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
<< <i>well rays now you have seen more sorry if the coin is not nice enough for you. Oh maybe your not good enough for the coin lol I love the coin for the reason most would not, it shows history and it is fun to talk about that history with by children. This coin is awesome and needs love too. Love the coin, love the coin.......... >>
It's a neat coin with a story to tell I'm sure. I have to say it is the worst example of a 1798 I have ever seen.

<< <i>i agree it is in bad shape but the date is readable unlike some others out there >>
Not to cast any more dispersions, but the date is almost suspiciously bold, given that the rest of the detail is nearly gone.
Just wondering if at least parts of the numerals were strengthened somewhere along the line?
<< <i>Of course it's not valueless-- it's a genuine 18th century product of the U.S. Mint with a clear date. I don't care HOW beat up it is! You give away stuff that is value-less. You don't give a 1798 cent even in this shape away. >>
I do. But okay.
