Unfortunately, I think you missed some of the board's tongue in cheek humor. The "adjustment marks" would be all of the scratches on the coin, and the "dimpled cheek" reference would refer to the crater in Liberty's cheek...neither being of benefit to the value of the coin.

i would still like a good reference for these. My humor gets lost on people also, some times it is hard because I have questions and people comment on everything but the actual question.

I thank they are being nice by not saying what they think of it. Even if it's a good deal some will pass, To others this is a cool looking coin it's just the split of the board. I think it's bouth cool and you know hard to look at. I have some my salf hard to pass up when they are so old and still here for us to look at...

There's always value to any coin no matter if it's chewed up like yours or not. Question is how much is it worth? (i.e. what someone is willing to give you for it at any point in time)

Being that this is a more common date and it's mighty damaged in many different ways, I'd say it's worth ~$10.....maybe.

really $10.00 thats cool, the coin is 215yo and was in circulation. Just think if this coin could talk, wow the things it could say about what it has seen and heard!

Oh maybe your not good enough for the coin lol I love the coin for the reason most would not, it shows history and it is fun to talk about that history with by children. This coin is awesome and needs love too. Love the coin, love the coin..........

It's a neat coin with a story to tell I'm sure. I have to say it is the worst example of a 1798 I have ever seen.

i agee it is in bad shape but the date is readable unlike some others out there. I just wanted to share something that is not like everything else that is usually on here.

Not to cast any more dispersions, but the date is almost suspiciously bold, given that the rest of the detail is nearly gone.
Just wondering if at least parts of the numerals were strengthened somewhere along the line?

Of course it's not valueless-- it's a genuine 18th century product of the U.S. Mint with a clear date. I don't care HOW beat up it is! You give away stuff that is value-less. You don't give a 1798 cent even in this shape away.

Do you like it? That's all that matters. We all can't collect 4000 dollar coins, some of us have to collect what we can. Enjoy it, it has earned that much.
