3 Year Search - Thank You Coindeuce

A huge thank you to coindeuce.
Long story short: Spent three years looking for an early bust gold half eagle. In that time scoured the internet and even spent hours searching google images for an indirect offering. More times than not when I found something decent I usually ended up spinning my wheels dealing with some shady guy who insisted everything from scratch free despite clear scratches and even once was told that David Hall at PCGS called to illustrate how pretty a coin was. It was a 53 btw.. Some of these guys were unreal and I found all of them.
The happy ending:
Around three weeks ago thought I would try something new. Posted a question/statement on the BST page that I was looking for early bust gold. I knew there had to be places that I was overlooking. Receive many pm's from people but coindeuce would drop me messages every-time he came across one through his browsing and then one day there was one from a dealer I had never heard of and just what I had been looking for. Great Guy illustrating a Great Coin offered by a Great Dealer. The best way to end my three year search after dealing with sone of the worst only to be redeemed by the best.
Thanks again coindeuce

Nice looking coin.
Too many positive BST transactions with too many members to list.
<< <i>...once was told [about another coin] that David Hall at PCGS called to illustrate how pretty a coin was... >>
second, i don't know david hall well at all, but from the couple times i have met him i would never believe this story! nothing against him, but i just can't imagine it happening. i get the feeling you feel the same way. ;-)

Yes we do agree on that regarding David Hall. Dont know the guy, but that reference was part of many lies from one dealer.
Unlike any other dealer dealings this quest seemed to introduce me to some of the biggest liars trying to flip a coin. Experience was so disgusting that it did push me away from being as active with my search and coins in general. Pretty coins can be tainted by the memory of a seller. Ive encountered a lot of misleading statements over the last 15 years, but it seems like they get thicker with higher priced coins.
Regarding my 3 year quest for early Bust Gold:
In one instance I purchased a coin only to be told several days later it had sold and received a refund. It happens and you move on, but in that case the seller a week later got in "another" coin and once I received a picture of it realized it was the same coin in the same holder with the same serial number....but around 20% higher. Made me sick.
Another instance was told by a seller that he had a MS62 coming back from grading. Great price kept pressing for a picture. Received picture and it was raw, heavily polished jewelry piece and the story changed that it was guaranteed to grade MS62.
The full version of the Hall/ PCGS situation was in reference to a $5 Gold Bust AU53 secure plus that was or maybe still on Ebay around 3 weeks ago. Looked like it had potential. Called the seller to ask about scratches on the obverse to determine if just evident at an angle or more prominent. Was told that there were not scratches. Pointed out what I was looking at and his response was that they are part of the die and he later said that it was part of the hair feature....not. Seller than told me that there are only 23 known to exist and I pointed out that was a population for the grade and that there are many more in other grades and also NGC has graded coins. By this point I had lost interest but set on the phone with him while he told me that the PCGS Secure Plus designation was only reviewed by David Hall at PCGS and that Hall/ PCGS called him to say how it was one on the nicest coins seen by PCGS.
For some people lies and misleading statements may be part of the game. I cant do it. Just have to walk away in disgust. Really takes the enjoyment out of collecting.
