Moving to California……………...

JustacommemanJustacommeman Posts: 22,852 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well, I've worked in LA for the last 8 years but have commuted from the eastern tome zone. I finally got around to making the physical move.

Post a California related item if you wish………….

Boy, you're taking that Tigers loss in the ALCS hard...

Detroit isn't exactly the center of the footwear fashion industry. Actually I'm surprised you stuck it out over there that long, hometown or not. Welcome aboard and we'll see you more at Long Beach.

Thank goodness I'm overseas and missed watching it. Even my Red Sox friends said they aged 5 years. All the games were broadcast live in China but I couldn't play hooky

Welcome! Lived here all my life (except for two years in southern Africa, but that's another story). Despite all our well known faults (no pun intended), it's a great place to live, although I'm partial to the San Diego area over LA...

Here is my favorite piece from my state. What part of the state you coming to? It is probably the most diverse state. We have a bit of everything here. One thing I have noticed from all the people who move here, if you think you will love everything about it - you wind up hating it & if you think you won't like it at all you wind up falling in love with it. We have everything to offer her from all the bad to all the good. Make sure you visit Yosemite, it will blow your socks off.

Welcome to California - I was born and raised here and am thankful that I get to live in such a beautiful part of the country! You'll love the weather, endure the traffic, enjoy the diverse population, but the best part is that you'll be just "up the road" from PCGS and Stacks Bowers!

I am guessing you completely ignored the advice of your tax accountants? image

My family has lived in MD since 1670 and I am seriously considering moving out because of taxes, the only thing stopping me is the stubbornness that has plagued my family since 1670.

No, that is a piece of the cable from the Golden Gate Bridge.. They replaced the cables in the 70's. They still sell 3" pieces. I haven't seen one this large for sale. It is 8" long and on a redwood base.

    Well,

California to me is a bit of an enigma. It is the best of places and the worst of places.

    Climate - mostly awesome
    Geography/Scenery - fantastic
Variety - maybe more than any other state
Politics - absolutely, horribly off the rails
People - lots of good people, huge numbers of absolute deadbeats
Overcrowding - for this reason alone I could never live there. Two red lights in a row make me crazy

    The biggest California secret?

We don't have earthquakes! At least, none to speak of worth mentioning. The last "Big One" was in 1906. The last moderate one was in 1994, which was a 6.7. Almost no one under the age of 25 in CA even knows what a good rumbler feels like. I've been in the SF Bay Area for 14 years now and only felt one that reminded me of a large truck rumbling by.

This annoys me, 'cause of the amount of Californians making fun of the DC area for "freaking out" over the 5.8 back in 2011. If Los Angeles had a 5.8, trust me, there'd be a lot of people freaking out.

Here's my little 3 acre slice of Santa Cruz mountains happiness. The commute is brutal but the weekends are great.

Shhhhh don't let it got out.

Lets see no tornados or hurricanes ....

OUR buildings are built to withstand earthquakes ... when the big one hits the Eastern US, it will not be pretty.

On a side note, There are predictions of an upcoming earthquake in California based on the recent sightings of oarfish ...

Be very thankful you were not in Northern California in 1989.
    Lives lost, billions in damage!

As for "island fever"....not even on my radar and I spend a lot of time in Hawaii every year....
Will move there for winters as soon as the kid is off to college.
I know many folks in Hawaii who have not been off island in decades and again, not even a hint of so called island fever.
Some are strong, others weak, we are all different thank goodness!

Since approximately 68% of all of the gold that was deposited at the Dahlonega Mint in 1852 came from California, odds are that this 1852-D half eagle contains California gold. One of only three Dahlonega gold coins with the S.S. Central America PGCS gold foil label, this piece was photographed by BluCC.

    Welcome to CA.

There is no sales tax on coins IF you purchase over $1500.

Been out here just short of 30 years.

Just make sure that you are prepared to deal with all of the things that make this state a pain to live in while at the same time enjoying all of the things that make this state a joy to live in.
