If you had to choose between these....

which would you go for

the early die state that shows more honest wear but has not been repolished into oblivion,

or the coin that shows less circulation wear, but -- well you look at the difference.

Just wondering, both coins are mine so it's not like I looking for a decision- just wondering how collectors taste go

Coin number 1 and I'd probably be able to afford that one as opposed to the one on the right.

In general, coin #1.....but if coin #2 was priced right, I wouldn't turn my nose up at it.

I'll take the one on the right even though the die was heavily re-polished.

Put me down for coin #1 in your most generous coin give away.

I feel have to clear something up - coin # 2 is not polished = the dies were reground and polished.
the fields are normally rough for this die state ( rusty dies maybe ) and the coin has nearly full luster-
it is not a polished coin and sits in a graded PCGS holder

Thanks as it seems most thought the coin was not original and polished into oblivion.

We have to use our brains? Can't we just rely on slabs and stickers? Are these both PCGS?

On large cents I always go with the ones that have more detail.
In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king.
  • Even without the new information, I was going to choose No. 2. It's just a nicer looking coin.
Let's try not to get upset.
  • I like the first one.

    I would pick coin #2.

I didn't see anything between these. Technically speaking, of course.
  • rxerrxer Posts: 280 ✭✭
yes, they are both PCGS slabbed coins and for those of you that picked # 1 solely on the
price - coin #1 would ( and did ) cost more that coin #2 and it might help you to know they are half cents
    and not large cents
