I was out at a small shop two weeks ago and picked up some Large cents and

did not look at them till i got home, I need to go back asap. The guy that was helping me was smiling when i asked him the price on some of at the time junkey looking coins. They where sliked well worn and rusted looking Large Cent he tells me $20 for the lot 7 in total the othere's will be back in a week or so. Here is one i just got back. What do you think of this rust bucket?

But since there is a 1799 electrotype in another thread right now, it can't hurt to ask...
1. Does that grayish corrosion look raised or more like it could be lead underneath a copper plating?
2. Any seam visible on the edge?
3. What does it weigh?
This one doesn't scream "electrotype" to me, but with that kind of corrosion, it's something to consider.
But, either way - great pick! Even if it is an electro, it's worth several times what you paid for the whole lot
The distinctive die state III cuds are evident.
The color and porosity looks unusual. This would obviously be a major score if its genuine.
Good luck!
<< <i>I'd assume the 4 is a crosslet 4, though I can't tell from the pic due to damage or corrosion.

Whoa...nice find. Amazing, really. WTG!
This happened at a coin shop or some other place? And why was the guy smiling when you asked for a price? Not sure I get that part.

A rare die variety I could see missing. But I'm pretty sure at least noticing a date is coins101.
Congrats to type2 - still smh!
<< <i>No. Probably worth around $2500 if sold raw at auction. >>
