I agree. This day on the American calendar is one of the biggest shams in history. Read the book 1421...that's when the Chinese were here. Then there were the Vikings. Then how the heck can you discover a place already inhabited by thousands of people? It makes no sense.

If we wanted to celebrate ships on this day, this is what I would post.

Nice Keyman. I picked up a three year run of the triangular ones a couple years ago.

This is judgment by today's standards and totally unfair to the individual. Within his contemporaries his behavior was normal and even considered heroic. Likely in the future, many today will simply be considered stupid idiots and wastrels.

No Rick, it is not just judgement by today's standards. He was judged to be a piece of crap in the 1400s and 1500s. He was terrible.

For anyone that wants a quick history lesson.

That article is political drivel and has no place on a coin forum.

The OP asked for pictures of coins, not political opinion.

Well this thread quickly went south. Columbus did what every other person did back then. If you do not like what someone is posting about, or have nothing to contribute other than your snide negative remarks, then perhaps you should move on to another thread and let the rest of us enjoy this hobby. The OP did not ask whether he was a rapist, murderer, or enslaver. He ask for you to post a coin. If you do not have said coin, then move along.

After reading this thread, and the link provided, I would have to agree that the Citizens of the United States should ask Historians to look into this and educate the public. I knew nothing of his injustices toward the natives of the "New World". Nothing wrong with revisiting history and getting the facts straight. If written history proves that Chris was a wretched excuse for a human being, why would we continue to celebrate him? By the way, anyone see Bob Costas' commentary on the Washington Redskins issue? I think he has a valid point as well. Nothing wrong with revisiting history. JMHO
