The secret is to have a steady hand.

Try laying the phone on a stack of books with the camera lens hanging over the edge. That'll keep 'er steady.

I was able to take these pictures, just by holding a 10x loupe in front of my iPhone's camera lense.

When doing coin videos from my phone, I would usually just rubberband my phone to one of those small camera tripods. Worked really great.
