Need help with a Bust Half

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,620 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm trying to decide what to grade this coin. It seems to me the obverse could be VF but the reverse is only Fine. Any opinions? I know there are some faint scratches on the obverse which show up more on the image than seen in person. I'm not going to submit the coin to a TPG. Is this a common variety? I tried looking online for images of the different Overton varieties but couldn't find anything. TIA.

My feel is 25-30...but I don't really know anything about grading bust half dollars either. :S

I think our hosts would grade it 15 if no issues. They are pretty tough on Bust halves.

The obverse is VF-ish, but the reverse has got a lot of wear. I'd have to go with Fine-15

Thanks all. F15 sounds good to me.

Marginal VF20 Looks like an R1 (common) O-104
Typically a well struck coin, so what you see is most likely wear, not die weakness.

I would go with F15 as the most likely grade.

For great images of almost all of the Overton die marriages, you cant go to CoinZip - a great resource.

The obverse is full VF20, but the reverse is too worn to support that grade...

F15, but very nice and very original image
