Any Luck in Buying on Ebay using the Bluesheet

Cougar1978Cougar1978 Posts: 8,812 ✭✭✭✭✭
While I take this publication on a monthly basis ($29 for 6 months) I am wondering if its a useful tool for ebay bidding. While its useful to me for walkup sellers at shows, I have had a little success using it for ebay bidding. Any thoughts or ideas?

Ebay is sight-unseen, so it would seem to make sense.

Absolutely - I consider Ebay sight unseen. I certainly don't want to buy something there and then overpay.

there are many coins I would not even pay bluesheet on- while there are many others that bluesheet wont even put you in the same room as
may the fonz be with you...always...

  • Nope, never even tried to use it on eBay or anywhere else. If you're buying common coins
you might have some luck but anything that is a harder date I don't think anyone would sell
    by the prices in it.

If there is a return policy on a coin it is NOT a sight-unseen purchase.

Exactly... you haven't really completed the purchase until you receive the coin and have decided not to return the coin... by then it is a sight-seen transaction.

You should do it, and treat it like a sight unseen bluesheet transaction.
    Go for it.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

On eBay, you may not be able to purchase much of anything at bluesheet levels besides low-end common dates. I can't imagine a dealer selling certified material for bluesheet prices and then forking over seller's fees on top of it. It certainly won't get you any of the premium quality coins that are often discussed on this forum.

I'm going to be a total smart alec and say " NO. I have most of my luck with the clicker on the mouse."

  • Using only the bluesheet will cause you more losses and wasted time that you can ever imagine...

I would guess it's unsuccessful on Ebay for you, as there are other buyers willing to pay more than Bluesheet for the coins
    you are bidding on?

I do not really consider any of the guides anymore. I use eBay, HA, Stacks, and other auction venue archives as my guide.

When I was a dealer I found the Blue Sheet to be virtually useless. The prices shown there are for mostly off-grade "C" coins, which I avoided. Of course if you can properly graded coins at those prices, more power to you!
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Yes Bill, I agree with you completely. I never really could buy from it yet friends of mine who own a shop will pull out theirs if you walk in with slabbed coins to sell. I have tracked a couple of ebay auctions (last week) where the coins that went for bluesheet or below were not very attractive.
