<< <i>The S should not be doubled >>
I don't think the S is doubled, it looks right to me. It's impossible to grade from the photo with the color balance so far off, but I don't any wear or carbon spots. Even if it was low grade and bound for a Genuine holder, certification is a must for a coin like that for authentication purposes.
I'd love to know the story behind that coin, if there is one.

Do you think it is a fake?

In general, seeing just 80% of one side is difficult to 'guess the grade'

I agree.
Looks like a whopper to me.

This plus the fact that the color balance and camera angle of the shot are both off...not to mention the focus issues.
Besides all of that....sure looks like it might have some promise there!...not sure about the MM though.
Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

On such a potentially valuable coin, why would you not submit it to PCGS?

+1
.
At that high a value I'd want to get it authenticated and graded and be sure the color wasn't messed with. That baby would already be on it's way for a slab.

Interesting, I see enough to say 100% sure it is the exact same coin.
The dark dot east of TRUST, the little gouge below the 9 and rim dings below the date and toning spot on the rim between the liberty and IN. A scrape on the ear and one on the nose. No doubt it's the same coin.
The only thing different is the area below IN seems to be fixed in the newer pic.
Which makes me wonder because in the article KP says it was already at PCGS and the article is not new.
What gives?
I think there was one that was slabbed around that time but later turned in the slab because it was conserved or re-colored and was handled with the guarantee. Is this that coin?
Also see it in this thread:
It's also the same coin but minus the dot in the field beyond trust:
http://forums.collectors.com/messageview.cfm?catid=26&threadid=840070
area behind Lincoln's head, although a small piece is still there attached to his head.
Edited to add better image of Potter coin, from post GrumpyEd mentioned.
That spot to right of TRUST doesn't show up, as well as some others, due to the lighting difference/quality of the 2 photos.
without making it obvious.

If he doesn't own the coin in question, why does he care what grade it is unless it's just for academic interest.

If this coin comes back from a major grading service with a high Mint State grade, she should consign it to a major auction company such as Heritage.

Coin is worth a LOT more if graded by PCGS. Even if it doesn't grade and goes into a Genuine holder, it's still worth more than raw. So why wouldn't you submit it to PCGS?
Edit to add: Definitely the same coin as the Potter coin pictured.

Well, just Love coins, period.
Should be submitted to a major grading service.
It`s clearly the Potter coin. Story is all

Yes, post the pictures of the coin that comes in, if it arrives! I would have a hard time sending this in the mail, as USPS does not insure that high!
Not questioning your story, but something just doesn't add up at this point. Will be interesting when you get the coin in.

she post a pic asking for info. and few responded to it , is it for sale, she only had one very blury pic, and we work with her on the lighting. have her take more pics. so i would say she does hand coin in hand. .
she realy dont know about coins, i guess i was tyhe most helpfull so she pic me to work with. as i was not trying to buy it for her, just help and make sure she got a fear deal.
well there not way she will get a fear shake till after this coin is graded. then we will know ture value and she can then put it up for auction.

It's just very odd how pixels seem to be smudged in places where indentifying marks exist on the Potter example,
with some faintly still visible, and how the spots on the lettering & design seem to match up. But you never know...

Based on what shylock posted, the 1st pic in the original post sure looks like an altered picture of the one shown on Potter's website. Here is the same coin as sold by Heritage in 2008 for $126,500 in a PCGS-64 Red holder.
Could be that someone is getting played here.
