There were tons of empty booths scattered about the floor. If someone had setup and started dealing in one of them I'm not sure the ANA would have detected it.

Maybe the idea was that if you wanted to sit, you should be at a dealer's table perusing coins!

Did you complain to any of the show managers there?

May seem minor to you, but it's a show stopper for me. I will call next year and NOT go if they do that again.
I have never been to a large show that didn't have tables......NEVER!!
I hate Chicago anyway! So it won't be a huge loss in my coin hunting!
Maybe this is the ANA's new marketing campaign?
Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.
I admit they were hard to find, but they were definitely there.

But the real problem was the lack of seating outside the bourse area, and that was a HUGE problem for me since I came very close to needing a cortisone injection in my knee during the show.

This is another STUPID rule I don't understand.
I feel I have the right to trade or buy from anybody at the show as long as I don't do it around a dealers table.
And I made such a deal at ANA Thursday!
And will always do so as I please!
tell laura.

Next ANA there should be a protest of 100 people in scooters blocking aisles all day to see how they like that!

The name is LEE!
i was ok with the lack of seating but it would have been nice.
the thing that really bothered me was that there were too many coins.

Yes I took my lunch break and phone breaks there.
If concession area tables are dissuading someone from attending a show then you might as well quit going to coin shows for the rest of your life. It's not the tables that bother you. You are merely looking for any excuse, no matter how insignificant, to justify your disdain for the show. If it isn't the tables then it's the lighting. If it isn't that then its the room being too cold. If it isn't that it's that dealer who didn't flash you bright smile. It goes on and on.
Besides, considering how the average coin person (on both sides of the table) looks, they can use not sitting for a few minutes.

So the problem is one of conspicuity. A couple of signs could have helped here, such as the one that directed visitors to CRO's table at booth 626 upon entering the bourse floor.

The Area spoken of above was bannered as the "Rest Stop". It was on the bourse map but out of the way behind a curtain, you had to hunt for it.
When I found it there was like two people there, and lots of tables.
Also the isle location banners were not up high so you could see isle numbers across the room but painted on the floor where no one saw them.
Further the table for flyers and announcements / dealer info. was 3 feet long and stuff was piled a foot high and falling onto the floor.
In LA 2009 ANA there where two 8 foot tables for this stuff. When I enquired at the ANA Info-desk about where the table was on opening day
they did not have a clue.
At the Cub game the busses started to leave to return to Rosemont before the game was over contrary to written instructions., and without a verbal announcement to everyone
we had to double up and take a cab to get back!!
The ANA is made up of clubs across the country yet the club table area was as far away from bourse traffic as possible .
so much for stimulating numismatic interest.
Come on ANA get your act together like in the past conventions. This was a poor showing.

I thought your middle name was "rarities".
I am sure Laura will want to address this issue of table conspicuity first of all. Nothing could possibly be more important to the ANA. Why don't you give her a call and see what she thinks. Let us know...

I totally disagree and it looks like several agree with me. I have heard that ANA does not like to be told that FUN is a better show.
Well.......ANA get use to it...because FUN is 10 times the show you are!!!!!!!

The ANA gets about $2,500 for a table up front. Club tables are given to the clubs free by the ANA.
Now, if you are running the ANA like a business, which tables go up front - - the ones you get $2,500 from, or the free ones?

Someone has a (legitimate) complaint about an issue, but it is considered a small complaint....so, the argument is to diminish the point and say to work on the larger issues.
I, on the other hand, believe all valid complaints should be addressed and the little ones should be taken care of asap....with the little ones gone, focus on the big ones can occur and get everyone behind them. Something like this is a small complaint, compared to many others, but is legitimate nonetheless and shouldn't take any underling more than a few minutes to resolve moving forward. Why denigrate someone for having an issue and why try to ignore the issue?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I for one like and use the seating w/ tables set up just outside the bourse at the "big" Baltimore shows. This area is perfect for taking a break, eating a sami, organizing your thoughts, or to meet your buds.
ANA PLEASE TAKE NOTICE AND LEARN FROM EXAMPLE.
<< <i>I've seen this style of arguing done at work many times.

My philosophy - the more trivial the complaint, the funnier the OP better be. Otherwise Coinosaurus will get mad.

If you paid for a table like they seem to expect dealers to, you'd have a place to sit.
Problem solved!

off and I hurt for a coupled of days. This year in January my wife said get you a walker and
that's just what I did. I used it in January & July and I could have walked the show three
times but just did it twice. Sat my butt down at dealer's tables and could see their coins
real good rather than in the hall's chairs and parked myself anywhere out of the way and relaxed.
Best couple of bucks I ever spent and just love it.

I couldn't agree more, a few things were disturbing at the show.
Eating at a bourse table is a definite no-no , IMHO, and eating at
one of only five Pub-Tables in the snack bar, while standing was
very inconvenient especially when every square inch of table space
was spoken for. This is the first large show i've attended, where there
wasn't a place to sit down, enjoy your lunch, have a cup of coffee with
a friend, or have a "show and tell" with your newps.
Although many people were thrilled at having first shot at the Reverse
Proof Gold Buffalos, and then having a quick flip to the bullion dealers
for a few hundred dollar profit, many dealers complained that this two
day Mint event competed with their show and was draining funds for an
otherwise "run of the mill Mint product". The lines were hours long and
the people were limited to five coins the first day and three coins the
second day. At one point I was alone at my table because the incentive
was so great for a fast buck, all my table mates disappeared. It wasn't
that big a deal, as all the customers were standing in line with them.
The Mint sale should have been before show hours ( 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM )
and held in a conference room ( there were plenty of them ) .
Other than that, I feel the ANA did a wonderful job. The displays were great
(as they always are ) and the personnel from COS were friendly ( as they always are ).
There were some lounge chairs in the ANA Exibit ( which was carpeted and not
exactly the place to have a snack or a beverage ) but at least a place to sit and
relax ( I spent some time there one late afternoon with a client who has spent
well over a quarter of a million dollars with me over the years. )
It was a very well run show, I met quite a few Forum regulars and can now associate
a face with a name. It was great to see so many familiar dealer faces as well. It seems
that my table ( Glenn Holsonbake's table actually ) was surrounded by dealers I knew
... and more importantly, dealers I liked.
So, next year, I agree with what Dimeman suggested, have some round dining tables and
ample chairs for ANA attendees ... Dealers and Collectors alike. None of us are getting any
younger.
