Grade this please

I'm only going to show the obverse.

I have to disagree with the grade it received. What do you think?

    Wybrit it would depend on luster which I can't tell from the picture. To me it is either a 62 or a 58.

    I think it got a (PCGS) 60 and you think it's a 62.

    Looks Unc to me, somewhere in the 60-62 range.

    Well that's a big old image, based on the large image it looks really beat up and a 62 or so, but I usually wouldn't try to guess.

    Now from a smaller image I'd guess 63 or 64.

    well, if I remember right, MS stands for Mint State.
    So, logically, a MS grade would be for a uncirculated coin.
    that said, this coin is circulated and has some "dings". This is clearly visible. these dings are not bag marks.
    If I would grade this coin, Canadian standards, I would give is a AU 55.
    However, NGC and PCGS might have other ideas and say it is a MS 60 or better.
    So, where would that leave the Mint State designation?
    remember, grading is subjective... and everyone has different standards.

    My uneducated eye keeps gravitating towards, "Genuine - Cleaned". The image appears to show evidences of an improper dip.

    From those images I'd have said AU58/MS62. I cheated and saw the real grade which is a little surprising.

    man that's way too big an image to view comfortably shees
    but seriously its def MS and not much wear - the dings/nicks are totally magnified obviously so my guess is 62 probably 63 even!

    tell you what, if it's one of those 1902 matte proof jobbers and it survived the great "rub off" at the mint, it might get an unexpectedly good grade for relative excellence. (e.g. an example which wasn't scratched to hades)

    that being said, Id say 62 and be happy to own it.

    I initially thought AU55 because it has a lot of dings and the rim appears damaged. But the more I read the OP's surprise... I'm thinking Genuine: Surface Damage

    While the obverse carries the grade, a shot of the reverse would help. I say this for three reasons:

    High spots and possible rub
    Signs of a dip that exist on the obverse
    Die issues

    I will play after seeing the reverse. In the spirit of fair play, I predict Wybrit is not happy with the grade and I may not be either

    Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
