I knew it would happen.
I'm working with retired U.S. Mint director Edmund Moy on a book about the American
Gold Eagle and American Platinum Eagle. He's written a great behind-the-scenes history
and exploration of the Mint and its bullion programs (similar to John Mercanti's American
Silver Eagles, published last year).
We're going to have a year-by-year study of the coins, and I'd like to include commentary from
avid collectors, specialists, dealers, etc. I'm looking for specific comments about specific dates;
for example: "I've never seen a 1987 Proof above 69 and I've been searching for 20 years" or
"In my experience the platinum of the late 1990s has a greater tendency to exhibit milk-spotting,
even in slabs," or "Prices have softened a bit for this anniversary set, but it remains a challenge
to find in the marketplace," or what-have-you.
If you could weigh in with observations, on any or all coins, sets, etc., from 1986 to date, I'll try to include
as many as possible. We'll credit you by name or with your moniker if you prefer to remain anonymous.
