    Need picture of the bottom of the reverse to tell you if it's a $3 coin or a $1,000 coin.

    It is not a VDB it looks to me to be a 1909 S only. If it is real I am sure its worth more than $3.00

    Mutilated later date coin. The style S mint mark is from the 1940's or so.

    The mint mark doesn't look right, the 0 in the date doesn't look right. I say altered.

    It looks like a later date, maybe a 1949-S???

    Maybe someone took a punch and punched it into the 4.
    What looks like a 0 is a crater not a 0.

    The mint mark is definitelly altered , or more accurately, mutilated. The portrait of Lincoln appears to be from a much later date, when the master hub showed considerably less detail than in 1909. Also, although it's difficult to see in the photo, if there are VDB initials at the base of Lincoln's bust,it is not a 1909 coin. I agree that it's probably a 1949 D or S that's been altered.

    I suppose the best thing for me to do is take a pair of plyers and a hammer and destroy the fake penney and toss it in the trash so someone else doesn't find it in change and think its real.

    The right obv field looks like it was artificially worn down along with the jaw and cheek of Lincoln, probably as part of the attempt to hide the alterations to date/mm.
