Pleasantly surprised by turnaround time.

Receive 5-1-13, ship 6-6-13, coins from Sweden and Norway.

Was told at Central states by PCGS staff to expect 3 months! image

It's great that some orders are coming back in 4 weeks, but I'm worried about the lack of consistency. I've heard the 3 months comment before, as well, and this just shows that PCGS is trying to make sure all dealers and most collectors pay the express fee.

Not wanting to face the worst case scenario, I just sent 5 coins in under Express Plus.

My recent world regular time was about 3 weeks. A recent world economy submission took over 4 months but it went in just before the first of the year which was probably the biggest backlog they had ever seen.

World Econonmy turnaround times have stunk for quite a while, so I sent in a World Regular submission in along with a US Regular submission last month. The submissions were received on May 10th and the US Regular submission shipped on May 23rd ... still nothing on the World Regular submission as estimated turnaround times creep up.

    Are you collecting darkside now?
  • SyracusianSyracusian Posts: 6,525 ✭✭✭✭✭
To my knowledge, Steve is collecting primarily Darkside.

JerseyJoe, the link doesn't work for us who do not have your password, but I'm curious: you submitted an entire Economy submission with handling and return shipping fees for just one coin? image

Roman is right, lack of consistency is the main characteristic. Pls remember that this group of graders of world coins, has become a travelling group, to Paris and to Hong Kong, once a month. It could have been worse. They are still looking for more local graders but apparently they haven't found any yet.

    Thanks.

The 8 free vouchers gave you the possibility to submit eight coins under the Regular Tier , which is up to $3000 in value a piece (instead of $300 in Economy) and with 15 business days as current turnaround given by PCGS. Normally, you'd pay $45 a piece for each coin plus handling and return shipping fees. So the vouchers, are worth $360 if you use them to the max. Economy submissions are different. I wonder if you have much more identical Lithuanian coins (from rolls?) and if you could have submitted them under bulk.

I thought about a bulk submission. I carefully looked thru the roll of centas and came up with about
20 that I felt were superior to the rest. These were a random 8 of those. I plan to send in the other
10-12 along with about 7 cross overs I bought in NGC slabs. I like the secure holders with the coin
imaged so you see it with certification verification.

    << <i>Are you collecting darkside now? >>

I have been collecting darkside for quite some time ... just never really discussed it very much on the lightside message boards.

Basically a case of lackluster US coin designs, the difficulty of finding nice coins over the past few years and stupid asking prices for toned common date coins.

I wonder which one will get grades posted first...

2 submissions: PCGS World Express and NGC Standard. Both delivered to respective TPG's yesterday (June 10th). Current advertised turnaround times are PCGS @ 8 business days and NGC @ 12 business days. Each submission contains 5 8 Reales coins with dates ranging from 1773 to 1820.

    Edited on June 12th:

NGC logged the submission on the 10th of June (same day as received). PCGS still hasn't logged it in.

    Edited on June 13th:

PCGS finally logged-in the submission as received today, the 13th...
