Perhaps ignorance is bliss, but a concerted and determined effort to ignore and/or discount the historical and numismatic underpinnings of our coinage is somewhere between sad and pathetic. A lack of interest? You lose some of my respect. I could care less about Moderns, but will listen to whatever wondercoin has to say. People are having fun with it.

The coin brought beaucoup bucks at Garrett (another name some here might not recognize). See the earlier thread where I misquoted the price realized.
This type of thinking and the rhetorical ignorance of the nuances of conservation and doctoring and their technical aspects are among the main reasons why I'm here. That, supporting knowledge gathering, showing off and acting out on the non-numismatic dark side of MrE's nature.

It matches up fairly well with current pops after the dilution of the FB standard as it prevailed at that time. Now too expensive for anyone without pop-top-label-itis. Nothing personal. Maybe just saddened that someone with your depth of knowledge (in a very narrow niche) has not expanded beyong it. Meh-ing the Quint is meta-symbolic of something going one here and in the hobby that saddens me deeply.

I would surmise from some of the comments that there is nothing new left to be discovered in American numismatics.

My fav thing about the Quint was listening to David discuss and dissect the coin with me while we were in line getting on a plane after the show. Its going to be fun hearing the results of his further research of the coin.
David's enthusiasm and love for the Quint was just all there. I don't care if you collect state quarters from circulation, Quints, Proof Gold, its the enthusiasm and passion that I love to see, that only us numismatists, will understand.
