PCGS Set Registry 'Matching' Program: Helping Both Collectors and Dealers

PCGS's Set Registry™ "Matching" Program is an innovative program that assists its members in building and/or improving their PCGS Registry sets.
Through this program, PCGS matches the Set Registry members' "sets" with what an auction company or dealer is offering at auction or for retail sale. The Set Registry member receives a direct email or "eBlast" that specifically lists the coins a dealer is offering that matches what they are looking for to improve or upgrade their sets.
"This is an important service that makes it unnecessary for our members to constantly monitor numerous auctions and dealers' inventories. We do it for them. We know how important each and every coin can be for a member who is building an all-important collection. Imagine getting notified when a coin that you've been looking for is offered," said Don Willis, President of PCGS.
"There is nothing that the Set Registry member needs to do other than be a participant in our PCGS Set Registry program. The entire program is confidential. A registrant's personal information is not disclosed to the dealer. If the member decides to contact the dealer or buy or bid on the item(s), it is entirely the member's option. PCGS does not disclose the hobbyist's identity to the dealer. We are merely notifying the member of what is available to help them improve or complete their set/s," explained BJ Searls, PCGS Set Registry Manager.
"PCGS is constantly looking for ways to improve its services and collectors' collecting experiences. The PCGS Set Registry is the largest and most recognized program in the hobby with over 66,000 sets currently registered. New collections are added every day. As the registry continues to grow and more members assemble unique, high-quality collections, the competition for coins can be difficult. And members may find themselves too busy to monitor the number of auctions and inventories offered. Our goal is to offer the PCGS Set Registry "Matching" Program as an invaluable service to assist loyal set registrants in building their collections. Not only will this service help collectors, on the flipside it can help consignors, auction houses and dealers achieve higher prices realized," Searls added.
Goldberg Auctioneers is the first auction company to utilize this innovative program to promote their June 2-5, 2013 auction. Larry Goldberg says, "Utilizing this program has enabled our auction company to stay out in front of our competition and to more effectively work with our clients and help our consignors realize a greater return on their prized coins."
HLRC.com is the first retail company to participate in the program. Harry Laibstain says, "We handle high quality examples of scarce collector issues and specialize in many series by die variety. We are highly motivated to help place coins in Registry collections. This program is a great way to be able to keep members abreast of the great coins we have to offer.

Truth!
We promise not to bombard you with emails. Actually we don't know how popular this program will be, so there may not be very many emails at all. We do know that PSA Registry participants love it. In any case you can always choose to opt out.
Remember that the dealers or auction houses never know who you are. All the emails are sent by PCGS and the Registry participant remains completely anonymous.
I think that this new feature might be of more use to the auction houses than the dealers. It will give them a chance to advertise what they have to offer beyond the usual catalogs, Internet browsing and emails that you get if you leave them a want list. Like the others I hope that this will not result in a deluge of emails with dealers "taking shots" to try to move marginal material. I avoid giving out my email address at the shows to more than a few trusted dealers for precisely that reason.
Never even bothered looking for the 300+ extra suggestions.
Please put a opt in or out button on the sets or I for one think these and maybe all of PCGS emails are going to end up in the spam folder.

In my list there was over half the coins that were "Details." The assumption is a details coin is better than a hole in your set, for which I am not sure I agree. This is how they can make this work better.
1. Be able to opt out at the set level.
2. Be able to set a minimum and maximum grade at the coin level
3. Be able to set a CAC flag (this is also keeps me from using collectors corner). The only way I know a coin is CAC'ed is by opening the link and when 19 out of 20 are not it just makes me stop using the service.
4. Being able to set a coin as "Do Not Upgrade" because you may like the coin you have and do not care to upgrade it. I have several toned (or tranished if you ask Ricko) that I have traded down a grade to get into my set.
5. Showing the set affected is out of place. I know why they did it like this as programatically this would be difficult to code another way, but what they should really be doing is taking you to a landing page that is dynamically created with all this information in a readable format, tha tway they are not "stuffing" it where is does not belong.
6. Set a minimum or maximum dollar amount
I also received the email - and I actually found a coin needed to complete my set of SLQ's - the listing didn't
have grades attached to it - but the attachment did bring up the Goldberg's auction lot - not a bad looking coin -
either with a decent head strike. It looks overdipped, IMHO, but I was pleased to at least have a glance at it.

Looks right to me. My email of suggestions to rtran@pcgs.com also came back to me as undeliverable.
We do limit the number of coins in the email to 50. we are going to reevaluate that.
We will get the Lowball and Everyman issues addressed in addition to the Genuine issue.

You have a 50 coin limit? How do you explain the 900+ coins that were listed in the email I received?

Thanks for bringing the link to my attention Dennis just went back to the email and Opted out of the program. Like you some of my sets I don't want to upgrade and some of my coins as one other poster mentioned I by choice have a lower graded coin in the slot as I like the look of crust better than bright white on ninety too hundred year old coins.
