Newp Proof IHC. A few "firsts" for me!

sparky64sparky64 Posts: 7,041 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm a type collector and as such I've lately become drawn towards Proof IHC's. Partly due to the beautiful examples seen here. Especially the iridescent browns.
I wanted one even though they are generally out of my price range.
I did a little research. Rick Snow's site warns against buying cheap dogs for obvious reasons. QDB says that some connoisseurs prefer gem BN to higher grade RD with hairlines.
Auction archives a pretty thin as I did not find many results of this date/grade/color.

A few of the "firsts" are:
It's the lowest mintage coin I own.
It's the most I've ever paid for a coin.
It's the most I've ever paid over Greysheet.
I've never even seen one in person.

Needless to say I won the auction. I liked the obverse photo but the reverse photo was iffy. I was a little nervous about how it would look when it arrived.
The obv was as nice as expected and there was some schmaltz on the slab that affected the rev pic.
The obv colors dance under the lights and the mirrors tracing the entire wreath make it appear to glow.

I couldn't be happier and someday hope to get proper images of it. These will have to do for now.

    Good for you Sparky!

And yes there are those of who appreciate really well preserved Mint State and Proof Brown copper. I too prefer it to the red coins which are often spotted and unattractive unless they are in very high grade.

IHC proofs in BN and RB have a lot of allure.

Way to go and most I believe are way undervalued in my opinion. You can get a lot of proof for your $$ if you do your homework. Congrats!
