ANA Board Candidate Bad-Mouths Technology

ANA BOARD CANDIDATE BAD-MOUTHS TECHNOLOGY

Denton Obverse, a candidate for the board of governors of the
American Numismatic Association, shocked listeners at a press
conference this afternoon when he announced that "The Internet
is a fad, and has no place in modern numismatics."

Long known as a hobby contrarian, Obverse first made waves in
the early 1980s by dumping silver and investing in BIE Lincoln cents.
"I became a millionaire with that move," he notes --- conveniently
failing to mention that before the investment he was a multi-millionaire.

The candidate went on to say that if elected he would downgrade
the ANA web site, www.money.org, to a static homepage directing
visitors to fax inquiries to Association headquarters in Colorado Springs.

Nobody said anyone running for any office had to have a brain. They have been optional for a long time many current office holders prove it.image

Mr. Obverse sounds like a real Reverse.
Now I have to go make a pencil sketching of a coin I'd like your opinion on.
Can't wait to fire-up the ticker tape tomorrow to see where the price of silver ends up.

    He's a write-in candidate! ;-)

Just a bit of light-hearted fun here. As I was reading through
the board candidate biographies this afternoon, I was struck
at how the ANA web site has become a modern-day "baseball,
Mom, and apple pie" plank --- every candidate is for it!

"I like education" and "We need more YNs!" too.

These topics are like R, S, T, L, N, and E in "Wheel of Fortune."

The really sad part is there is probably a sizeable contingent of ANA members who would support candidate Obverse's platform on technology in numismatics.

I don't care about the fax. I just want to know who gets the distinction of being called the father of the internet. image

I think it's a generational thing. People born and raised with the internet and technology in general embrace it and consider it to be a normal part of their environment while old timers either fear it or don't trust it. I guess you just can't teach some old dogs new tricks.
