Counterfeit holder on eBay? 16-D Merc

Link to auction.
The font looks good on this one, but the coin seems incredibly undergraded, which is what sounded the warning bells for me. Any thoughts?

<< <i>Something is strange, it's a photograph, but the dime has that scanned appearance. Anyone else feel the same? >>
I don't agree think all images are from a scanner. And might be that another Pawn Shop gets stuck with counterfeits at dimes on dpollars.
Dear bobandlinda1,
This coin is a mystery to me as I am by no means an expert on coins. I have look to see if the case has been opened and I see no evidence of such. I will be attaching a letter to explain this to the buyer and as with all my auctions will be offering a full refund.

but this is off by quite a bit. Is this amount of rotation normal for the 16 D?
<< <i>IMO the coin is much higher grade than the holder indicates, the center of the "D" should be triangular and it's not, an there's a funny watermark on the paper insert which a real slab wouldn't have; thus, yes it's a fake slab/coin.
I think the water mark you are seeing is the reflection of his camera.
It also looks like the picture was taken inside a light box. This may explain the scanned or washed out look. I am on my phone so I have no opinion on the coin.

<< <i>Fake dime, D is not in correct place. So, fake coin in PCGS slab? Was slabbed cracked and a fake inserted
and then resealed? Can that be done??

i concur.
100% not authentic. none of the 4 reverse dies has a D that clears the tip of the leaf. die 4 is close but this coin is a mile off.
they can crack coins, keep the real one, keep the original insert, put it all into new plastic. authentication of slabbed coins is: 1. start with coin 2. verify insert/holder. (that will get you through 99.5% of the way)
whomever commented about wrong coin for the assigned grade is right on the money. all the counterfeit pcgs 1916-d dimes have been like this where the grade of the "coin" is far from the insert. (that I have seen).
i've saved the info and will contact the buyer if feedback is left, unless they figure it out that is.
here is the reverse for the viewers.

Reported again.
Just found this thread. When I click the link in the OP's first post, I get an auction for a VG10, and that coin is 100% genuine. It possesses all of the correct diagnostics, including the die break from 6 o'clock on the obverse to the truncation of the bust. The "D" is also correct is shape and location.
Scrolling down I see a VF20 and that coin is fake. Is the seller listing more than one coin? I am confused.
<< <i>Reading the listing looks like the seller thinks OK because the cert. number verifiies. Has no clue it's a counterfeit slab. >>
There will eventually need to be another slab system since verifying the cert is no longer the only thing needed. More photos will definitely help.

Both the original listing and the second listing have been nuked by eBay. That is the reason the links are not working.
