My Coin is Famous!!!

BustHalfBrianBustHalfBrian Posts: 4,192 ✭✭✭✭
...Well, sort of,

I received the latest edition of "Coin World Magazine" in the mail yesterday. I usually just toss these magazines on the shelf to read at a later date, but for some reason I decided to open this one and skim a few articles.

Flipping through, I saw the usual - ads, ads, priceguides, ads - but then I came across an article on about halfway through the mag entitled, "How to Grade Capped Bust Half Dollars" (or something along those lines). In the article was a pictorial grading guide of CBHs, providing photos of what a Capped Bust Half Dollar should look like in each grade on the Sheldon Scale.

Taking a closer look at the pics they used for an example of a VF30 Capped Bust Half Dollar, I realized I had seen the coin before... "Wait a second, that's my coin!" image

I bought this O.105a "Single Leaf" from DKRCs a little over a year ago. The coin had sold at Heritage a year prior to that, and by the looks of it, photos from the coin's sale back then were grabbed from HA.com for use in this article.

I just got a kick out of this - Out of all the certified VF30 Capped Bust Half Dollars they could have chosen to use in this article, they chose mine! image

My CWM membership expired last night, so I no longer have access to the online edition of the magazine.

If anyone here who's subscribed to CWM would be kind enough to get a screenshot of the paragraph in the article referencing my half dollar, I would be eternally grateful image

That's cool! Congrats on your celebrity coin. Let us know if it wins any Golden Globe awards.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have a relevant story to add. One of my coins got famous in February of this year. It was an 1902 Barber half in PCGS AU58 that I bought from Harlan J. Berk from the Broward Co. Type Set. It appeared on the cover of CoinAge magazine in February 2013. Do you think I could find a copy of CoinAge anywhere in my town? Nope. I was only able to download the cover from the website. Anyone have a coffee-stained copy of this issue that they want to sell to me at a grossly inflated price?

    Neat stuff Brian!

Don't wait too long to own that 100 CBH marriages required to join the Bust Half Nut Club. Think how impressive it would be to say you are the youngest Nut member ever. I don't think there is a minimum age requirement for admission to the Nut Club. The Nut Forum is something you would definitely enjoy. Of course our Nut Forum is strictly for Nuts.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

That would be incredible! image My set is growing slowly but surely, so hopefully I'll qualify for the Nut Club within the next decade image
