    I love colorful gold, but it's hard to come by. I've posted this a few times but I like it so you'll have to view it again image

    This is from the Boscoreale hoard which was a group of Roman aurei found during the excavation of Pompeii in 1895 where it was buried beneath the ash from Vesuvius for over 1800 years.

    The less refined the gold, the more likely it is to acquire some color (silver, gold). More likely with private gold than US mint gold.

    We are so used to seeing dipped/stripped gold that when something original comes along, we automatically think something is wrong.
