I hope you mean NGC in which case I would say somewhere around $950-975 is a fair price.

If you really mean NCG, then melt.

Hard to say as you did not include what he paid. But go Here and you can see what they retail for.

Hi, could be me, it is WAY before my normal rise time of 2pm.
But, I find these types of questions are best asked before the purchase...

Hmmmmm, maybe he did and just did not inform his son? Do you think GR would consult his Dad
on a Rookie Mickey Mantle card before buying?

  • The average Heritage Auctions prices realized has them going between $1100-$1400 if this helps.

Values are relative.... even when the grade is stated, the coin may not live up to it's label.... Picture would help. Cheers, RickO

    64 bid about $950
    63 bid about $620.

Assuming lo-end maybe $800 sight-unseen for an NGC generic Indian QE.

    YMMV

There is a difference between an NGC graded coin and an NCG graded coin. The responses you have gotten from here, after the first one, are for NGC graded coins.

Good point. The HA auctions prices realized above were for NGC graded coins.

If the label on the holder actually indicates NCG, it is highly doubtful the coin merits the quality indicated. Your question may not be answered effectively until you provide more detail, such as high resolution images of the coin, and the price paid.

One major dealer is selling CAC 64's at $995.

1908's aren't as commonly seen as the common dates in the later 1920's.

NCG? Missed that. Best you can probably expect is a coin worth $300-$350. If the coin has been cleaned or polished...much less.

If the coin is a legitimate uncirculated example, he probably didn't hurt himself. A major distributor of certified pre-1933 gold has a current buy price of $410 for the 1908 $2.50 if it is graded MS-61 by PCGS or NGC. The issue for him is to qualify the technical condition of the coin, regardless of the company that encapsulated the coin.

Yeah he wasnt looking to flip, just to invest in a small decent piece of gold. The 300-350 estimate sounds around where others at the auction thought it may go for.
