My 1934-58 Lincoln set - almost complete!

ElmerFusterpuckElmerFusterpuck Posts: 4,799 ✭✭✭✭✭
I've posted this in the past, but all the pics have been retaken with a better camera. This has been a fun set to chase, and I only need 5 more to complete it. I'm in the process of replacing the 44-S; I don't like what is going on with the reverse. From what I've observed, the 1935-S and 1954 appear to be the toughest in 66 RD. I'm glad I've saved the other late P mints for last, the prices for those have steadily fallen. I really couldn't see paying $300+ each for the 1946 thru 1953 P mints, which I have seen (and still see); the ones I have I paid far less.

1934 thru 1958 cents

Jeez man you got a lot of gems in there! Well done!
That 1943-D though... is that a dent in the holder, or on the actual coin?

I would like that those 43 p/d/s would be red or at least brown, not silver color...... image

Wow, you're really inspiring me to go for this set! How hard has it been? What years have you found to be the toughest? Hard on the wallet?

    NICE WORK! image

    Cheers to you! image

Thanks for the props! I've been working on this set since 2006 or so, between other sets and coin distractions. The vast majority of these were very inexpensive (<$30 each); I think it's better the buy most of these 66's slabbed than 'make' them yourself, unless you have one of the better dates, like the '35-S or the 1954, or you have a shot at 67. The '41-D in 67 I did submit myself; I bought the coin for $1 back in the late 1980's. What is encouraging is that these red cents don't appear to be turning in the holder, some of the holders are more than 10 years old.

On the 43-D, that is either a hit on the cheek or a planchet flaw. I do have a 67 somewhere for that date, just need to find the images and replace them. The luster on the 66 is 'creamier' than the 67. I'd like all the steel cents to have the luster like the 43-S, it screams on that example.

I see something like this magnificent set and I think to myself that this is more than simply a collection of coins. This is a preservation of a part of American history, just as they looked as they came from the Mint that can be appreciated for generations to come.

Extremely sweet set. The earliest coins are as red as the latest coins! Your photos also make it very easy and interesting to watch the details in Lincoln's hair and bread slowly disappear over the years.

I am not a Lincoln cent collector, but those are beautiful.

  • Impressive!

All of those are MS66RD or above? If so then very, very impressive set.
