1893S Morgan Dollar Genuine Cleaned Question

In last 3 years I inherited my grandfather coin collection who collected primarily in the 1960's and 1970's. He was not a wealthy person was a very avid coin collector and i (am a baseball card collector so generally knew the psa / grading rationale) recently
sent the higher value coins to PCGS for grading. The 1893S came back as Genuine Cleaned.

If i wanted to sell that coin what would be the best venue?

Would an auction house have interest in selling a cleaned coin?

I know the blue book is a proxy and as an example of this coin the VF - 20 trades at around $3500.

To a novice how do cleaned coins typically trade relative to the fully graded coin? or is there really a rule of thumb

Thank you in advance and look forward to anyone more experienced thoughts

Did you have it "details" graded? If so, what was it?

Yes, all the major auction houses will sell a cleaned coin in a PCGS holder.

1893-S is THE key date in the Morgan series; every example will eventually find a home, no matter what its condition or problems.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • Could you please post a picture? Also, did the coin come back slabed or body bagged?

what is the best mediume to get pictures brought so everyone can see.

I have tried both a scan and a digital photo but each time it doesnt like it based on file size.

It looks for a really small file size ie less than 50kb.

What is most efficient way / file type / format to get onto the message board?

    thank you in advance

Upload the pictures to an online photo service, like Photobucket. Then cut and paste the links to each photo into your message. That's how all of us here do it. It gets you around the photo size limit...

anyone have any idea what that coin may be worth and what would be best venue to sell it net of all auction / ebay expenses and general exposure to
    a broader amount of people?

    thank you

Looks around a VG grade to me. For something like this I would personally throw it on eBay with an auction listing if you are not concerned about giving your address to an unknown buyer.

    unfortunately thats harshly cleaned,
    but still a great year

someone will give you an estimate I'm sure

or you could even sell it on the BST board here

Look at my links above for value.

Ebay would get the most exposure.

Too bad someone cleaned the crap out of that one, but it's still a genuine 1893-S. My thought would be to list it on ebay.

With the harsh cleaning and the the about VG details remaining I could see this selling in the $2250 to $2700 area if you find the right bidders at the right time. If you have a eBay account you might think about listing it at a BIN of $3000 with the make offer enabled to see what offers you get.

One the "best things" to do is take your time. Entertain offers, etc. Just your questions posted here indicate the right choices have been made so far :-) image

And potentially save you returns from some bidders. On the other hand, it is always good to have the largest number of potential bids on your item. But that is likely offset by eBay fees.
