Will acetone work on this??

I have some modern gold that has smudges on them. It looks like an orange colored smudge.What would work to get this off? Any ideas. thanks in advance.

    Try acetone.... if it is organic, it will come off. If it remains, then you need to identify the substance before further efforts. Cheers, RickO

    It might be the copper alloy toning that's on/close to the surface.

    I noticed that alot of the new gold comms have this film on it. I had several $5 generals that I sent back with this stuff on them. I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this. The coin I have has a slight thumbprint on it that is only seen if tilted.Thanks
