Yesterday's Flip...The 25th Anniversary Silver Eagle Set...Predictions?

It's been about a year and a half since these were issued.
You remember the rush to buy and the phones going down, servers crashing,
the pre-sales cancelled by eBay,
the 462 PCGS threads on the topic,
the endless label options (First Strike, Flag, Mercanti...),
the spike in prices and the inevitable drop,
the milk spots.
It's yesterday's flip. Time for a revisit...
Are there 100,000 collectors out there clamoring for these?
Where will prices be in a year, 5 years?
How damaging is the milk spot issue to the collectibility of this set?
What do you wish you did differently...
Will there be another flip like this?????

I don't intend on increasing my chance for spotting by sending raw ASE coins to PCGS for grading when I can just hold tight.
As far as predictions, I hope mine go up in value. I am in no hurry.
On a high note I think they did a much better job on the 2012 S 2 coin 75th set than the 2011.
- Don't wait till tomorrow to flip something you can flip today
- No more submitting ASEs for grading
A: Yes, but they're still playing on Facebook
Where will prices be in a year, 5 years?
A: they will be through the roof, or at spot prices and melted for computer hardware
How damaging is the milk spot issue to the collectibility of this set?
A: As damaging as it is to all silver american eagles with milk spots.
What do you wish you did differently...
A: Nothing. I'm the ballsiest son of mum I know
Will there be another flip like this?????
A: Without a doubt

Oh yeah, forgot getting involved with a pre-sale BST deal with a dealer on my fourth Bof5. That kinda sucked, but I learned my lesson.
I only order one box of five, which I brought to the FUN show intact;
the gals opened it up and I took one raw set out for my collection &
had the other four sets graded. Ended up getting one set in MS/ PR 70
and the others in 68's & 69's. I held on too long and sold them six months
later to Silver Town at another show... Seems I got the best wholesale price
available... I made a few bucks... and the sets I ended up keeping were
essentially free.
I hate selling on eBay, too much aggravation dealing with some of their patrons.
Would rather sell on the BST here. If it doesn't sell here, I go to enough shows
so I know I'll sell there.
Since then, I have only ordered one set of the San Francisco issue and individual
ASE's that have been issued directly from the Mint.

Coin collecting is not a hobby, it's an obsession !
New Barber Purchases
sold 3, kept 2.
no spotting of any in the OGP.
<< <i>Never pre-sell to a dealer, you'll wind up getting a much lower price. Wait until after they hit the market. >>
Depending on the issue, the aftermarket could be a huge flop and you could come out on top pre-selling.

True on some issues (2010 mint issued ATBs) but on this one you would have got smoked! Many dealers here were only offering $350...
Anyone remember the weights?
This box says something like 6 pounds on the shipping label.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
That is just the way it is, not good not bad.
It also depends on what the US Mint will do with this issue in the future. Maybe they make a 25k mintage ASE Single Type issue... I think at 100K mintage they are a good hold.
Box of 20
<< <i>I've still got a sealed box that I was going to keep but may sell, but, it was ordered by a relative (I paid them for it) and I don't know, offhand, whether it is 2 or 3 sets.

IIRC they were approx. 3lbs each so 2 sets would be 6lbs. I know in the monster thread there were weight posts.

Thank you. I was leaning towards thinking it was 2, but didn't want to screw myself, nor my relative whom I said I would split any profits with. Already paid the cost of the sets, but with some bills and changes coming up, I am paring down a few items and this is bulky enough to be part of it.
Appreciate the info.

Saved one 70 set and sold all the others at a good price.
Made about $1000 after the initial cost/grading fees/shipping/eBay/PayPal's cut and got a free MS70 set, so I was gruntled.
But I probably would have made more if a just sold the 5 sets in a sealed box.

Jim
I've had four of my 5 sets on the BST and Ebay since November. Didn't sell any until about 2 weeks ago. Sold my last two sets today. Keeping the 5th raw for myself, plus an NGC 70 set I picked up a while back.
<< <i> Anyone have a prediction on the next flip to come out?
Jim >>
Yes, later this summer when the ASE set comes out.

the big downer is the spots when they appear out of the blue .. local coin show interest is very small in the set except for rev proof
Thanks
