Memphis Show report

Hello forum,

I was able to attend the show for about three hours on Saturday. Last moment Personal scheduling truncated my visit sadly. I intended to be there for at least 10 hours over two days and hunt for fellow members. I apologive for not being able to fill any want lists. (Again, not soliciting here, just explaining).

The bourse was really brisk on a Saturday afternoon. Dealers reported average to above average results to that point. (I live in Arkansas, so I am pretty close to Memphis and therefore know many of the dealers). There seemed to be about 100 tables there, but I did not count exactly. It was free to get in but there were no drawings for door prizes. Call me petty, but I always enjoy a chance to win a silver dollar or even a gold bullion coin.

I was able to find some nice purchases in my area of collecting...Rainbow toned coins. Almost all my purchases were big two certified except for an exceptional rainbow toned Canadian Mint set...dollar through cent, in a capital plastics holder.

My largest dollar purchase was an NGC MS-64* almost-monster rainbow bag toned, with neon greens, reds and other colors over a semi PL obverse. This is the most I've spent on a toned purchase since my....personal downsizing seven years ago. It felt good to buy a really PQ Morgan, even though it was not gem. But sooo close to "monster".

I also found some Great value purchases on 100% obverse toned PC and NGC 64s at less than $100. A really great target toned; another that was plum toned in the center and great periphery tone and then a super rattler 63 with a NEON Yellow/gold that, while only about 35% of the obverse, had the eye appeal of a $250 coin. A nice end of the dark spectrum obverse toned black Morgan in NGC 63, which I probably spent "all the money" on, but I liked it.

I found a few more pieces that I really liked but could never catch the dealer at his booth for those three hours...weird to be gone that long and miss potential sale, I think?

Anyway, lots of fun. Deciding if I want to post my cell phone pics, which are excrucitingly poor, or just leave it up to your imaginations...lol.

Hmmm....might have, but unsure of the name...apologies. Is he a dealer? If so, from where?

I have sent my coins to be imaged today. The images will be ready by this weekend, I think and I will post for those still interested.

John Wooten was a well known Franklin dealer in the 80/90's who kinda dropped from the dealer scene ...last I knew he had become an avid Lincoln collector.

I attended the Memphis show on Friday , i did not see John Wooten . I purchased a nice group of Morgan dollars, buffalo nickels , and mercury dimes ! most of my coins were bought from a very cool dealer from New Mexico, Jim Merbs .

DDM, haha, yes, I visited that dealer and he told me of a man who got to him before I did...talked about the buffalos and two Morgans you bought?

Congrats! Oh, and I hate you...just a little, for getting to him before me....lol....jk.
