Post A Coin You Spent Exactly $1000.00 On (juice not included)
A Nice Round Number and sort of a gateway into "real" coins, post a coin you spent *Exactly* $1000 for. That can be an auction bid I'm not adding in juice or a BIN stc as long as its $1000. Post a Grand Coin! My new baby was a stacks buy for an even Grand so he's a Grand Baby.

The result of sitting in a live auction and thinking "what the heck..."
I look smarter now because gold has more than quadrupled since then.
Not really looking for much these days but if I were, it might be a toner.

I know nada about Half Dimes, I had no idea
the were any ( unless its a rare die variety )
that were worth $1K in AU.
I had one coin I bought (since sold ) that cost $1,000.
It was at a FUN show six or seven years ago, at the
A.N.R. / Stack's table about the time they merged.
I spotted a coin that I had never come upon in AU 58
for my Barber Half collection - an absolutely beautiful :

I purchased the piece at my very first ANA, the 1993 event in Baltimore. I had a great time, spending four nights in the Lord Baltimore, as I recall. The event was really special for me: My Dad and I flew to the show together and we had a lot of time to enjoy each other's company. Not to make the story maudlin, but Dad was ill (and nobody knew). He was diagnosed with lung cancer days after returning and we lost him a couple of months later.
Back to the coin. It was a prooflike piece, not crusty like most of my Dahlonega coins are, but really intrigued me. Now it has so much sentimental value that I could never sell it. It was priced at exactly $1,000, which was the threshold for a tax-free transaction. I didn't do any haggling, as a lower price would have triggered the sales tax.
Dad was working on a set of Philly No Motto half eagles, 1838-1861, mirroring the Dahlonega Mint's years of production. Dad bought a really nice 1846 $5, PCGS XF45 OGH, with beautiful coloration. I'm thinking it's "gold bean quality" today.
We had great food, drank Bass Ale exclusively, and took a side trip to Gettysburg. I also bought an original King Farouk auction catalog from numismatic literature dealer Charles Davis. All in all, the 1993 Baltimore ANA is one of my favorite numismatic memories.
Hoard the keys.
