Friends..how was Long beach?

I didn't go but heard it was a little slow on Thursday and Friday the retail traffic picked up?

The Heritage signature sale was weak.

Otherwise, a good show from my perspective. I got to see the "High Desert" registry Large cent set. The MS64+BN 1793 Liberty Cap cent, ex: Eliasberg, the only mint state 1793 Liberty Cap, is awesome.

Thursday was better than Friday, but still had nice sales/purchases to show for.

Saturday is turning out to be more like Friday than Thursday. image On the upside, I got free coffee from the Starbucks kiosk! image

Thursday was busy and most dealers said they had an excellent Thursday. Friday was slower. Right now there's some buzz due to the sports section activities. Jerry West and the Laker Girls are doing autographs in the back of the room and Magic Johnson is supposed to join them in an hour.

I knew something was odd on Thursday morning when it took 20 min. to get a badge/sticker....an HOUR after the show opened. Usually, if you get there late you can normally get the sticker and go. Besides that it was harder finding parking when I first drove in. I hadn't seen anything like that in at least 15 years.

I did not attend the Long Beach Show this time, or any the past ten years. I used to attend all the Long Beach Shows. IF I hear more about how wonderful this show is now, I will again do my old routine driving from Portland Oregon to Long Beach. There are many many wineries between Oregon and southern California. You can be assured that I will avoid San Francisco by many miles.

Has that translated into much additional traffic and business in the coin section?

<< <i>The Heritage signature sale was weak.

The one and only coin that I was bidding on went for 60% above PCGS price guide! I did not win it.

Since I was in the neighborhood, I decided to stop in at the live auction........total waste of my time. All the early copper went for wayyyyyyy to much, just like the last Heritage auction. I have not seen these kind of prices translate onto ebay. Went back to Palm Springs on friday and bid on-line.......was again shut-out as the gold coins went for wayyyyy too much. Coin prices may be booming at these auctions, but, until I see these prices translate elsewhere, I'm sitting mostly on the sidelines

There was significantly more foot traffic during the whole show. Thursday was exceptional and even Saturday was good. PCGS has worked very hard to improve the last couple shows and the show needed the help. Totally different atmosphere than a year ago. But it is different for individual dealers based on location and material.....

I had a very good show.
I was there on Tuesday doing dealer deals, until 6:30 Saturday.
    Was steady every day.
Buying nice dollars was difficult...lots of stuff out there, but the good coins are either not out there,or priced way up there.
Auction prices on nice dollars were also way up there.
The dollar market is really hot,and has been for months now.
I hope to do a full report soon,
